ALUMNI UPDATE: Johnny B. debuts in Mexico’s First Division League.

A recap of former Chivas USA players’ performance outside MLS

In Mexico’s First Division League, former Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein debuted in Tigres UANL’s 1-0 victory over Necaxa. Bornstein, who was unavailable for the team’s first match due to injury, played in the first half of the match and will be available for Tigres’ next match against America next Sunday in Estadio Azteca.

Former Chivas USA forward Francisco Palencia played 15 minutes and contributed an assist in Pumas UNAM’s 2-0 victory over Santos Laguna last Sunday. Pumas, along with Palencia, are tied in first place of Group 3 in Mexico’s Clausura 2011 tournament with four points in two games. Next up for the team is an away match against Cruz Azul.

Another former Chivas USA forward Eduardo Lillingston came on to the field in the 65th minute as his team, Estudiantes Tecos, took a 3-2 victory over Mexico’s First Division League reigning champions Monterrey. Tecos’ Head Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola will visit his former team Puebla FC this Sunday in Estadio Cuauhtemoc.

Also in Mexico, former Chivas USA forward Giancarlo Maldonado scored a penalty kick and the final goal in Atlante’s 3-0 win over Cruz Azul. The Venezuelan international came on to the match in the 53rd minute, shortly before another former Chivas USA forward Isaac Romo would enter for Cruz Azul. Next up for Maldonado and Atlante will be a visit to reigning champion Monterrey next Saturday. Watch Maldonado's goal here:

 

In England, former Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan started in his team Hull City’s 2-0 victory over Barnsley last Saturday in the English League Championship. Next up for Guzan and Hull City is an away game against Reading this Saturday.

In Belgium, former Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan and club Anderlecht will return to action in the Belgian Jupiler League this Sunday as they face St. Liege. Anderlecht is currently in first place within the league with 50 points, six points ahead of second place Club Genk.

On international duty, former Chivas USA midfielder Osael Romero played in El Salvador’s 5-2 victory over  Belize in the Central American Cup (UNCAF). Romero scored the first goal for El Salvador in the match that qualified the team to this summer’s Gold Cup in the U.S. Also participating in the tournament is current Chivas USA defender Darío Delgado with the Costa Rican National Team, who also qualified to the 2011 Gold Cup after a 2-0 victory over Guatemala. The 2011 Gold Cup will compete for a ticket to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil along with five other Central American national teams, U.S., Mexico and Canada among other national teams. The Gold Cup will be competed in the U.S., which includes venues like The Home Depot Center and Pasadena’s own Rose Bowl Stadium. Watch Romero's goal here:
