ALUMNI UPDATE: Eduardo Lillingston returns to Mexico’s First Division
In Mexico, former Chivas USA forward Eduardo Lillingston has returned to Mexico’s First Division with Estudiantes Tecos, playing in the recently begun Clausura 2011 tournament. Lillingston was in the starting lineup for Tecos’ 4-1 loss against Cruz Azul on Saturday, while another former Chivas USA forward, Isaac Romo, was on the bench for Cruz Azul. The only goal for Tecos came after Lillingston drew a foul in the box, and the resulting penalty was converted by Mauro Cejas. Estudiantes Tecos will play its second match of the regular season on Friday, hosting defending champion Monterrey.
Also in Mexico, former Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein is recovering from a right thigh injury with Tigres UANL, who played to a 2-2 draw against Queretaro last weekend. Bornstein is now training with the rest of the team and is expected to make his Mexican First Division debut once he recovers. Tigres will play its first home match of the season this Saturday against Necaxa.
Former Chivas USA Goalkeeper Brad Guzan is now on loan from Aston Villa to Hull City (in the English League Championship), and was not in the lineup for Hull’s 3-2 loss to Wigan Athletic last Saturday in the FA Cup in England. Guzan did start in his new team’s 3-2 victory last Monday against Portsmouth. Next up for Guzan and Hull City in the League Championship will be a home match against Barnsley on Saturday, January 15.
On international duty, former Chivas USA midfielder Osael Romero is with El Salvador’s National Team in preparation for the team’s participation in the upcoming Central American Cup (UNCAF), that will be disputed in Panama from January 14-23, and will qualify five teams to compete in this summer’s 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. El Salvador will fight for a berth in the Gold Cup against Belize, Nicaragua, and Panama in the Group Stage of the Central American Cup. Other national teams competing include Costa Rica, with current Chivas USA defender Darío Delgado, Guatemala and Honduras.
Former Chivas USA Coach Bob Bradley and former midfielder Jesse Marsch are in the U.S. Men’s National Team January training camp along with current Chivas USA forward Justin Braun, ahead of the team’s January 24 friendly against Chile that will be held in The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
