“I think that if the U.S. was going to lose, I would’ve preferred it to be to Australia,” said U.S. National Team fan Jeff King. “It’s great for the Middle East but I think I would’ve chosen Australia over the United States.”

The U.S was bidding for the 2022 World Cup against Australia, South Korea, Japan and Qatar. After four rounds of elimination, Qatar received 14 votes in favor, while the U.S. fell in second place with eight votes; Australia was the first eliminated in the first round from the 22-strong committee.

“I’m a little upset it didn’t happen,” said a Chivas USA fan. “As a U.S. fan, and countrywise, the United States has so many people from different countries, why not bring the World Cup here and unite as one to celebrate the beautiful game which is soccer.”
