Development Academy Winter Showcase Update

A look at the U-16 and U-18s' performance in Phoenix showcase

At the 2010 Development Academy Winter Showcase in Phoenix,
Arizona, Chivas USA is enjoying success so far, with both the Under-18 and
Under-16 Teams capturing wins.

Both of the Chivas USA youth teams have played three games, facing off against Virginia Rush AJ Auxerre, Texas Rush AJ Auxerre, and
FC Dallas.  The U-18’s won each of their first two matches by a score of 3-1, before
falling to FC Dallas 2-0 in their final contest. Midfielder Bryan de la Fuente (who
was called up to the full team this season) played 90 minutes in the first
match, and 45 in the second, scoring a goal in the process.

Meanwhile, the U-16’s started their showcase with a 6-1 rout
of the Virginia club, led by a hat-trick from Christian Carrillo and a pair of
goals from Jesus Jimenez. The team stumbled in its second match, however,
falling to the Texas club 2-1.
They are playing in their third and final match of the showcase on
Tuesday, against FC Dallas.

After wrapping up the showcase, Chivas USA’s youth teams
will return to Southern California and continue league play in the Development Academy.  This weekend the teams have an exciting matchup against Arsenal FC
of Los Angeles on Saturday.

The U.S. Soccer Development Academy, a
collection of 78 of the nation’s best youth teams, hosts biannual “Showcases”
to bring all the teams from across the country together in one
tournament.  The teams get the opportunity to play against opponents out
of their geographical regions, and train and compete using the best facilities
and equipment, all under the watchful eyes of hundreds of coaches and scouts.
