Alumni update: Kljestan plays 90 minutes in Anderlecht victory

A look at what former Goats' players were up to last week

Former Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan helped his club Anderlecht to a 2-1 victory over Zulte-Waregem this Sunday, playing all 90 minutes in the Belgian Jupiler League win. The result kept Anderlecht in first place in the division with 40 points, one ahead of second place Racing Genk. The next match for Kljestan and his club will be against Lokeren on Sunday.

Another former Chivas USA midfielder, Juan Pablo Garcia, played in an important match this weekend, as he was on the field for Veracruz’ 1-0 loss in the second leg of the Liga de Ascenso (second division) Apertura championship game against Club Tijuana. Garcia played 67 minutes as Veracruz was unable to battle back after also losing the first leg of the series by a 2-0 score. With the win, Club Tijuana will play the eventual winner of the 2011 Clausura tournament to determine who is promoted to the Mexican First Division. Other Chivas USA alums in Mexico, including Eduardo Lillingston and ‘Panchito’ Mendoza of Indios de Ciudad Juarez, have seen their season come to an end.

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan saw his team, Aston Villa, struggle over the last week, first losing 2-1 against Birmingham in the Carling Cup and then dropping a 3-0 result to Liverpool on Monday in English Premier League action. Guzan was on the bench for both matches, behind starting goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
