After two weeks of early off-season training, the players begin their winter vacation this weekend, just in time for Thanksgiving.  The players were all looking forward to going home and spending time with family, even if “home” was somewhere far away from the perfect weather in Carson.

“I hear it’s starting to get colder,” said Justin Braun of home in Salt Lake City.  “The snow and rain is coming.  The ski resorts are already open, so it’s definitely different than here.”

Braun is looking forward to a bit of relaxation, and a nice thanksgiving dinner with his immediate family.  The young striker plans on spending most of the vacation at his home in Utah, evaluating and improving all aspects of his game.

“That’s what I need to use the off-season for,” he said.  “To go in there, and kind of critique myself on this year, and work on the things that need improvement for next year.”

Midfielder Ben Zemanski will also be heading to colder climates for Thanksgiving.  He plans on being back in Ohio by Sunday, to see his Akron Zips Men’s Soccer team take on Western Michigan in the MAC Championship game.

After the soccer game, Zemanski is looking forward to some football too.  When asked what he’s most looking forward to for Thanksgiving, his eyes lit up.

“The Turkey Bowl, The Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl,” he said excitedly.  The friendly backyard football game is an annual tradition in his family.

Zemanski said he plays as all-time quarterback “of course”, and jokingly called himself the star player.

“I think I’m the three-year reigning MVP,” he said, laughing. “No, it’s just a little family football game, with all the young cousins and everyone.  But I’m definitely looking forward to it.”
