People For Parks recognizes Chivas USA
Chivas USA was honored on Tuesday with the Organization of the Year Award at the Ninth Annual Parks Awards celebration held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Chivas USA Investor-Operator Antonio Cué accepted the award on behalf of the organization, presented by the L.A. City Recreation and Parks General Manager, Jon Kirk Mukri.
People for Parks is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with community organizations, public agencies, other non-profits and the private sector to expand public access to green space in Los Angeles.
“Chivas USA demonstrates a strong commitment to our community,” said Carlyle W. Hall Jr., President Emeritus of People and Parks. “They sponsor a host of programs to give recreation opportunities and life chances to Los Angeles youth. We thank you for not ignoring the humble community roots that have nourished many of your outstanding athletes and that provide so much of your fan base.”
“When the City of Los Angeles needs partners to support projects in the community, we can always count on Chivas USA,” said Mukri before handing the award to Cué at the ceremony.
Chivas USA, with the support of City of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, have brought the game of soccer to children and families in the community through a variety of programs. With practices and clinics hosted by professional Chivas USA coaches and staff, many people who might otherwise not have access to the game were able to experience the sport at the highest level.
“We are the team for the people and we will always be proud to support the community,” said Cué during the annual celebration, which was co-sponsored by PFP, the L.A. City Dept. of Recreation and Parks, and the L.A. County Parks and Recreation Dept.
Among the other people that were recognized were Alan I. Rothenberg, as Man of the Year, and the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) as the Youth Organization of the Year.
