ALUMNI UPDATE: 'Loquito' sends team to Liga de Ascenso Finals

A recap of former Chivas USA players’ performance outside MLS

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, November 29, 2010) – In Mexico, former Chivas USA  midfielder Juan Pablo García played 17 minutes as sub in the Veracruz's 2-0 loss to Irapuato in the 1st leg of the Liga de Ascenso playoffs.  In the 2nd leg, García came on in the 70th minute as a substitute and scored the series-winning goal to send Veracruz to the Liga de Ascenso Finals against Tijuana. ‘Loquito’ headed in a cross in the 73rd minute to give Tiburones Rojos a 3-1 victory and even the aggregate score at 3-3. Veracruz advanced to the finals since they had more points than Irapuato in the regular season. Check out ‘Loquito’s’ goal here:

 

Also in Mexico, Pumas striker Juan Francisco Palencia played 69 minutes in the team's 0-0 draw against Monterrey in the 1st leg of the Mexican Primera Division Semifinals. Palencia also played 59 minutes in Pumas' 2-0 loss in the 2nd leg, as Pumas was knocked out of the playoffs by Monterrey.

In Europe, former Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan played 90 minutes in Anderlecht’s 4-1 win over Charleroi. The win moved Anderlecht to first place in the Belgian Pro League, one point clear of Racing Genk. Kljestan has two goals in 624 minutes for Anderlecht since joining the team in May.  

Also in Europe, forward Matt Taylor played 70 minutes in Rot Weiss Ahlen’s 4-0 defeat to Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the German 3. Bundesliga. Taylor has an incredible seven goals in eleven games with Rot Weiss Ahlen since being transferred from FSV Frankfurt in July.
