SuperClásico Press Conference Recap
Post Game Reactions
Chivas USA Head Coach Martín Vásquez, and Midfielder Bryan de la Fuente give their reactions on Chivas USA's last match of the 2010 MLS season.
During this afternoon’s press conference, Chivas USA’s Ante Jazic and Rodolfo Espinoza spoke about the importance of Sunday’s Honda SuperClásico. Both players stressed that winning the game would be a great step in closing out the MLS season in the right way.
Espinoza said the team is taking their remaining games one at a time, but winning Sunday’s match against the Galaxy is especially important. While he’s never played in a SuperClásico before, Espinoza said the passion and intensity of the matchup was evident even watching from Mexico.
Because of the intense and physical nature of meetings between the clubs, what happened in previous games is not carried over.
"In games like this, the standings do not matter,” said Jazic. “It will be ninety minutes of fighting and scrapping.”
When asked who “owned The Home Depot Center”, the Galaxy’s Omar Gonazalez provided some fuel for Chivas USA as he reminded everyone that he has yet lose a SuperClásico in his two seasons with Los Angeles, and said that he intended to keep it that way.
The press conference ended as the Galaxy’s Edson Buddle summed up the importance of the rivalry from a players perspective: daily bragging rights.
“We cross each other in the hallways,” Buddle said. “You don’t want to be the one to have to put your head down and mumble ‘good morning’, you want to be the one with your chest out.”
