Practice Report October 7
Chivas USA continued preparations for Saturday’s game
against Toronto FC, doing tactical work in an effort to set a lineup for the
match. After a warm-up, Head Coach Martín Vásquez worked through a drill of six
attackers against four defenders to work on the defense’s shape and
communication. With Darío Delgado on international duty with the Costa Rican
National Team, but Michael Umaña returning from suspension, the back four
should look different than last week. Following small-sided defensive and
attacking drills, the team split into two groups to play full-field 11v11. One
familiar face was back at practice today, as Gerson Mayén returned from his
loan stint at Miami FC, where he played in nine matches with the team.
Though the team has been eliminated from the playoff chase, players
know there is still plenty at stake in the coming matches.
“We are professionals and we have to take the next
games as professionals and entertain the people that come to the stadium to
watch us play,” said Jesus Padilla. “Next year we will have our
chance to turn this around, all of us will. You will see different results and
the kind of good play that you saw from us during some games.”
Also, Jorge Flores, coming off a strong performance in the
second half of the Honda SuperClásico, is ready to continue proving himself to
the coaching staff in the coming games.
“I try to take the opportunities as they come, and
take advantage of them during these games,” he said.
