ALUMNI UPDATE: Kljestan and Romo help lead clubs to victory

A recap of former Chivas USA players’ performance outside MLS

A pair of former Chivas USA players, midfielder Sacha Kljestan (pictured) and forward Isaac Romo, helped lead their respective clubs to wins this past weekend in action abroad. Kljestan played all 90 minutes in Anderlecht’s 2-0 victory over Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League, while Romo played 69 minutes in Querétaro’s 1-0 win against U.A. de G in Mexican First Division action.

In 13 matches so far this season for Querétaro, Romo has contributed 2 assists in 879 minutes of play. His team is currently in the 15th position with a record of 4-3-6, good for 15 points in Mexico’s First Division. Meanwhile, Kljestan made his first start since returning from injury and with the win over Westerlo, helped moved Anderlecht into 2nd place in the Belgian Pro League, just five points behind leaders Genk.

Also in Mexico, former Chivas USA midfielder Francisco Mendoza scored his 4th goal of the season for Indios de Ciudad Juarez in their match against La Piedad that ended in a 2-2 draw. Former Chivas USA forward Eduardo Lillingston contributed 90 minutes of play in the match as well. Mendoza has 4 goals and 3 assists in 1,078 minutes of play for Indios de Juarez while Lillingston leads the team with 7 goals in 13 games and 946 minutes of play.

Pumas striker Juan Francisco Palencia played 24 minutes in the team’s 2-0 loss versus Tigres. Palencia came on as a substitute in the 66th minute for Martín Bravo and the loss dropped Pumas to eighth place in the league. Veracruz midfielder Juan Pablo García is recuperating from an injury and will be out for another two to three weeks; ‘Loquito’ has played in 10 games for Tiburones Rojos and has scored one goal in 619 minutes. Veracruz is the second best team in the Liga de Ascenso (second division) with a record of 7-5-2 and 27 points.

In England, former Red-and-White goalkeeper Brad Guzan was an unused sub in Aston Villa’s 1-0 loss to Sunderland. Aston Villa is currently in 10th place in the English Premier League with 11 points in nine games.
