Kljestan to miss Europa League matchup
AMSTERDAM – Anderlecht midfielder Sacha Kljestan has been ruled out of Thursday's Europa League clash against Zenit St. Petersburg with an ankle sprain, but the club expects he will be available for selection on the weekend.
The US international turned his ankle during Monday's training session. He missed practice the following day, but was able to take part in most of Wednesday's drills.
"He is training with the group, but he is not doing all the exercises," Anderlecht press officer David Steegen told MLSsoccer.com. "He is back is training at a lower regimen."
Though the recovery schedule will not have Kljestan ready for Zenit's visit, Anderlecht's medical staff is hopeful he can compete for selection against weekend league guests Kortrijk.
"It's nothing serious," offered Steegen. "He should be fit for Sunday."
Since joining the Mauves from Chivas USA this summer, Kljestan has two goals in seven games across all competitions. Anderlecht currently stand second in the Jupiler League, two points shy of early pacesetters Genk.
