Gordon earns MLS Player of the Week honor
When the LA Galaxy traded forward Alan Gordon to Chivas USA
on Aug. 5 in exchange for allocation money, they were probably not thinking
they were sending a future MLS Player of the Week to their intra-city derby rivals.
Gordon proved them wrong by earning his first career MLS Player of the Week
honors for Week 24 as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
The Long Beach, California native assisted on both Chivas USA goals as they
defeated the New England Revolution on Friday night at The Home Depot Center.
Justin “Braunaldinho” was the beneficiary of Gordon’s vision
after just six minutes, when the 28-year-old Gordon slid a through ball into
the right side of the box that Braun chipped over the onrushing goalkeeper.
A half-hour later Gordon received a pass between two
defenders and laid the ball perfectly for Paolo Nagamura to strike home the
second for Chivas USA.
Gordon nearly missed scoring his first goal in a Chivas USA uniform on a patented header in
the 26th minute, firing wide left of the goal on a cross from the
