CHIVAS USA TO FACE SEATTLE SOUNDERS IN CRUCIAL WESTERN CONFERENCE MATCHUP: The Red-and-White will meet up with the Seattle Sounders this Saturday, August 14 at 8:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson in a crucial Western Conference match. As Chivas USA continues to push for a spot in the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs, Seattle is one of several teams in the division that the Red-and-White will be looking to jump ahead of in the standings. Saturday’s match will feature a pair of giveaways for fans, with the first 5000 fans in attendance receiving a commemorative Jonathan Bornstein poster, as well as a Mystery Gift Card courtesy of The Home Depot. A special Family Pack is also available for fans looking to attend the match, with tickets starting as low as $14.50 per person. ‘MARCH TO THE MATCH’ WITH BAND OF THE GAME AND FANS STARTS AT 7:00 ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 14: A new tradition has come to The Home Depot Center in 2010, with Chivas USA fans, the Union Ultras supporters group, and the Band of the Game (the South El Monte High School band), all gathering for the ‘March to the Match.’ With everyone making noise and getting ready for the match, all fans are encouraged to join the group when it leaves from Lot 11 at 7:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, August 14, continuing this new event which will occur prior to every home match the Red-and-White play. TRIO OF CHIVAS USA PLAYERS HELPING NATIONAL TEAMS THIS WEEK: Three Chivas USA players are currently with their National Teams ahead of international friendly matches taking place this week. Jonathan Bornstein is with the United States for a Tuesday evening match (5:00 p.m. PT) against Brazil to take place at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Also this week are matches for Giancarlo Maldonado, who travels to Panama with his native Venezuela, and Michael Umaña, who will be with Costa Rica for its match at Paraguay. FORWARD ALAN GORDON TO JOIN RED-AND-WHITE IN TRAINING ON TUESDAY: New Chivas USA forward Alan Gordon will join the team in training on Tuesday after the trade last week with the LA Galaxy that brought the striker to the Red-and-White. Gordon, who will wear number 16 for Chivas USA, has scored 16 goals in 99 games with the Galaxy since joining the team in 2004, and will help provide the Red-and-White with depth at the forward position. Originally from Long Beach, Gordon moved to Arizona as a teen and played two seasons at Yavapai College in Arizona before transferring to Oregon State for the last two seasons of his collegiate career, scoring 26 goals in 40 games and earning All-Pac 10 honors in both seasons before joining MLS.

SPECIAL JONATHAN BORNSTEIN COMMEMORATIVE POSTER AVAILABLE AT SATURDAY’S GAME: Chivas USA fans will have a chance to bring home a poster of  one of their favorite players at this Saturday’s game against the Seattle Sounders, as the first 5000 fans in attendance will receive a special Jonathan Bornstein commemorative poster. The poster is the second in a series of Chivas USA Legends, and will feature the team’s captain who was a star for the United States National Team at the World Cup in June. CHIVAS USA HELPS BRING SOCCER TO SUMMER NIGHT LIGHTS PROGRAM: Chivas USA has teamed up with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to bring soccer to the successful Summer Night Lights program, a one-of-a-kind violence reduction community initiative held at Los Angeles parks. The initiative provides extended programming at city parks from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, four days a week, throughout the summer months, including the Chivas USA clinics. Chivas USA academy coaches will host hundreds of participating youths, who will enjoy 90 minute soccer training sessions designed for children with all levels of soccer experience.  Nearly all the clinics will include appearances by the ChivaFighter mascot and ChivaPatrol street team who will be on hand with prizes and giveaways for participating youth and families. For more information please visit cdchivasusa.com/summernights.

RED-AND-WHITE LOOK TO OPEN CUP SEMIFINAL ON SEPTEMBER 1: After earning a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo at Robertson Stadium in Houston on July 6, Chivas USA has advanced to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals for the first time in club history. Next up for the Red-and-White is a difficult road match at the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, September 1, which will be played at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash. The win over the Dynamo was the first time Chivas USA had ever won a match in Houston, and featured two goals from Justin Braun and a third from Michael Lahoud. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, which is recognized as U.S. Soccer’s National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.

CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA TOPS SAN LUIS AND LOOKS TO FIRST LEG OF COPA LIBERTADORES FINAL: Chivas de Guadalajara returned to Mexican First Division action this weekend with a 1-0 victory over San Luis on Saturday, with Marco Fabian scoring the goal, his second of the week after also scoring in the Copa Libertadores match against Universidad de Chile on Tuesday. Next up for Guadalajara is the first leg of the Copa Libertadores final against Internacional de Brasil on Wednesday at 5:50 p.m. PT in the new Omnilife Stadium in Guadalajara. Chivas de Guadalajara’s following match in the Mexican First Division will be this Saturday, August 14 against Estudiantes Tecos.
