Thornton's Pre-Game Ritual

Goats GK eats a square meal, tries to relax and gets mentally prepared

Chivas USA Goalkeeper Zach Thornton, who is listed at 6’3” and 230 pounds, had one of the best seasons of his career last year at the age of 35, being named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and the Comeback Player, because he takes care of his body.

Before every game, he eats the same healthy meal: chicken, pasta, and vegetables.

Besides his dinner, Thornton does not have an extensive pregame routine. He does not listen to music, nor does he have any superstitions. He just puts on his game face and mentally prepares himself for the upcoming match.

“I rest and eat properly before the game,” Thornton said. “Nothing too complicated.”
