   Chivas
USA fell 2-1 on Saturday afternoon against Toronto FC at BMO Field in
Toronto, Canada. With the result, the Red-and-White (5-10-3) remains
with 18 points in the Western Conference, while Toronto FC (7-6-5)
reached 26 points in the Eastern Conference.  A few notes from the match:

  • Forward Giancarlo Maldonado scored his first goal in the league at the 65th minute on a penalty kick taken after a Toronto handball inside the box.  Maldonado had scored once before for the Red-and-White in SuperLiga 2010 against Pachuca.

  • Toronto,
undefeated at home this season with a record of 6-0-4, broke Chivas
USA’s four-game unbeaten streak in MLS. Chivas USA had only lost once
in the last nine matches in all competitions (MLS, SuperLiga and US
    Open Cup).

  • Toronto
had a 2-0 lead at halftime with goals by Nana Attakora and Chad
Barrett. Attakora gave Toronto FC the lead with an impressive header
from a Dan Gargan long throw in at the 20th minute and then
Barrett added the second goal of the match at the 31st minute. Barrett
volleyed from inside the penalty area after a pass into the box by
Jacob Peterson was deflected to him by Maicon Santos.

  • Chivas
USA defender and captain Jonathan Bornstein returned to action after
suffering a knee injury, as well as Mariano Trujillo who served a one-game yellow card accumulation suspension.

  • The Red-and-White will travel back to Los Angeles on Sunday and will resume training on Tuesday. Chivas
USA will return to The Home Depot Center on Saturday, August 14, for a
8:00 p.m. PT matchup against Seattle Sounders FC. Special Family Packs
