Chivas USA Encourages Fans to Say "Yes!" to Organ Donation

Goats hosted Donate Life Night on Saturday during the match vs. Seattle

Saturday night’s game against the Seattle Sounders was Donate Life Night, as Chivas USA partnered with Donate Life California to raise donor awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation, which can save and heal thousands of lives every year. Fans were encouraged to check “Yes!” when applying for or renewing their driver’s license or I.D. cards to become organ and tissue donors. Californians can also sign up on the Donate Life California Organ and Tissue Donor Registry at www.donateLIFEcalifornia.org or www.donateVIDAcalifornia.org.

“It is a very urgent situation,” said Donate Life California representative Paula Valle. “People die everyday waiting for a donation.”

200 Southland transplant recipients and organ and tissue donor family members were on hand to see the Goats and the Chivas play to a 0-0 draw.

“Saturday night’s game was an opportunity for us to energize our fans beyond their excitement for our team, moving and inspiring them to celebrate life and register to become a donor,” said Chivas USA Senior Manager of Community Affairs Nadia Gonzalez.

Organ and tissue donation is a very important cause to the Red-and-White. Sergio Gomez, a passionate Chivas USA fan and Legion 1908 supporter, is alive because of a donation of a kidney from his sister, Claudia Pinzon. At the game, Gomez unveiled a banner that read, “My heart belongs to Chivas, my organs belong to you.”
