MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, and The Home Depot, the official home improvement retailer of MLS, has launched the Community MVP contest. In Los Angeles, Chivas USA will be supporting the contest by encouraging its fans, supporters and community partners to highlight the dedication and passion of individuals making a difference in their community.

The Community MVP contest is part of the MLS W.O.R.K.S. Community Service Program – a collaborative effort to combine sport and service, promote goodwill within MLS markets and improve lives and communities at the grassroots level. 

“Every day, community leaders throughout Southern California are making a difference in people’s lives,” said Chivas USA President and CEO Shawn Hunter. “Through this initiative, we at Chivas USA hope to recognize some of the local heroes who have changed our communities for the better and inspire us to do the same.”

The individual chosen as Chivas USA Community MVP will be given four field seats for the SuperClasico match between Chivas USA and LA Galaxy on October 3rd  at The Home Depot Center. The winner will also be honored during a pre-game ceremony, and given a Chivas USA gift bag with team-autographed merchandise.  In addition, the winner will receive a $500 gift card provided by The Home Depot, along with a trip to MLS Cup 2010 in Toronto (round-trip coach airfare provided by American Airlines). Official MLS merchandise will also be a part of the prize package.

Nominations must be 500 words or less and can be submitted by visiting The contest will be open until September 17, 2010 at 7:59pm ET. Winners will be announced on and recognized during halftime of MLS Cup 2010 at BMO Field in Toronto.
