BORNSTEIN BLOGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA AS UNITED STATES TIES ENGLAND: Chivas USA captain Jonathan Bornstein is currently with the United States National Team in South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the U.S. started its participation in the tournament with a 1-1 draw against a strong England squad. CHIVAS USA TO HOLD PRACTICE IN THE COMMUNITY TOMORROW IN POMONA: Chivas USA will hold its second ‘Practice in the Community’ of 2010 at Veterans Soccer Complex in Pomona tomorrow Tuesday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m. PT. The event, which is hosted by the City of Pomona, will include a practice session of Chivas USA’s first-team squad, followed by an opportunity for fans to take photos, get autographs and meet players. The June 15 practice will take place at Veterans Soccer Complex, located at 1945 West Missing Blvd. in Pomona. The event, the second in series of training sessions that Chivas USA holds each month across Southern California, will give fans the unique opportunity, free of cost, to come out and watch, up close, the practice session of a professional soccer team.
RED-AND-WHITE RETURN TO THE HOME DEPOT CENTER ON JUNE 26 AGAINST FC DALLAS: After two away matches and a two week break for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Chivas USA will return to The Home Depot Center on Saturday, June 26, when the team faces FC Dallas at 7:30 p.m. PT. At the moment, FC Dallas is just two points ahead of the Red-and-White in the Western Conference, holding a record of 2-2-6. The June 26 match will include a special ‘Kids Pack’ offer, giving fans a ticket for a child 16 and younger free with the purchase of an adult ticket. MARCELO SARAGOSA TO APPEAR ON EXTRATIME RADIO TO DISCUSS BRAZIL MATCH: Chivas USA midfielder Marcelo Saragosa will appear on ExtraTime Radio, airing on Tuesday afternoon at MLSsoccer.com, to discuss Brazil’s opening match at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, when the team faces North Korea. The match, which airs on ESPN and Univision at 11:30 a.m. PT, pits Brazil, one of the favorites to with the Cup, against the unknown quantity of North Korea. Saragosa will give his reaction to the game, and will talk about the Brazilian team, which features his close friend, Real Madrid striker Kaká. SUPERLIGA TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW: Chivas USA announced that tickets for SuperLiga 2010 matches against Mexican clubs Puebla and Pachuca this July at The Home Depot Center are available now on-line at cdchivasusa.com and by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1. Chivas USA plays its Group B matches in mid-July in Los Angeles, starting with a match against Puebla F.C. with Carlos Ruiz on Thursday, July 15, at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson. Fans now have the opportunity to buy Chivas USA’s Game Advance Purchase Special, with guaranteed entrance to the SuperLiga matches against Puebla and Pachuca for only $20. CHIVAS USA YOUTH TRYOUTS: Players born between 1992 and 1997 will have a chance to show their skills in front of Chivas USA’s Youth Team coaches in the cities of Bakersfield (June 25), San Bernardino (July 9) and Simi Valley (July 30). Representatives from both Chivas USA and Chivas de Guadalajara will attend the tryouts to assess talent. Spaces in the Youth Team tryouts cost $40, and spots are limited, so advance registration is highly recommended. ‘CHIVAS AT THE PARK L.A.’ ON SATURDAY, JUNE 19 AT NORMANDALE IN TORRANCE: Chivas USA has kicked off the popular ‘Chivas at the Park L.A.’ program, and will continue the series of soccer clinics taking place in various parks throughout Los Angeles with a session on Saturday, June 19 at Normandale Recreation Center at 22400 S. Halldale Ave in Torrance. The clinics, which offer participating boys and girls ages 5-15 the opportunity to learn soccer techniques and practice drills that highlight teamwork in an environment that promotes the importance of fitness for the entire family, cost just $5 and include 90 minutes of soccer instruction, a Chivas at the Park t-shirt, and a certificate of completion. ‘MARCH TO THE MATCH’ WITH BAND OF THE GAME AND FANS STARTS AT 6:30 ON SATURDAY, JUNE 26: A new tradition has come to The Home Depot Center in 2010, with Chivas USA fans, the Union Ultras supporters group, and the Band of the Game (from Franklin High School), all gathering for the ‘March to the Match.’ With everyone making noise and getting ready for the match, all fans are encouraged to join the group when it leaves from Lot 11 at 6:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 26, continuing this new event which will occur prior to every home match the Red-and-White play. CHIVAS USA YOUTH TEAMS FINISH DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY SEASON: The Chivas USA Youth Teams have finished their Development Academy seasons after playing in the 2010 Spring Showcase in Sarasota, Florida. The U-16 Team earned a 2-0-1 record at the event, topping teams from St. Louis and Texas, and earning a draw with a club from Pennsylvania, while the U-18’s won their first two matches of the tournament. In the 2010 Development Academy season, the Chivas USA U-18 team finished in fourth place of the SoCal Division of the Development Academy’s West Conference with an 9-7-0 record, while the U-16 ended in fifth place with a 7-7-2 record. CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA CLINCH A SPOT IN THE COPA LIBERTADORES SEMIFINAL: Chivas de Guadalajara is currently on hiatus after the spring season ended, but has clinched a spot in the semifinal of Copa Libertadores and will face Universidad de Chile in the semifinal on July 28, after four Chivas de Guadalajara players return from international duty from the FIFA World Cup.
