Chivas USA visits Red Bulls Saturday for important match

CHIVAS USA MAKES FIRST VISIT TO RED BULL ARENA THIS SATURDAY AT 4:30 P.M. PT: A week after visiting D.C. United, the Red-and-White will return to the East Coast for the team’s first-ever match at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. Chivas USA is visiting the New York Red Bulls in the final match before MLS takes a three-week break for the group stage of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The Red-and-White have already defeated New York this season, earning a 2-0 victory over the Red Bulls on April 10 at The Home Depot Center, and will be looking for the team’s first victory since a 4-0 win over the New England Revolution on May 5. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT) and will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports en Español, and W Radio 690 AM.

VOTE BRAUN AND GALINDO FOR ‘GOAL OF THE WEEK’: Chivas USA forwards Justin Braun and Maykel Galindo each scored against D.C. United this past Saturday, and both players have been nominated for AT&T Goal of the Week. Braun scored his goal in the 16th minute of the match, taking a pass from Michael Lahoud near midfield and beating a defender before slotting a low shot for the game’s first goal. Later in the match, after D.C. had gone ahead 2-1, Galindo equalized with a low shot after dribbling through the United defense. RED-AND-WHITE RETURN TO THE HOME DEPOT CENTER ON JUNE 26 AGAINST FC DALLAS: After two away matches and a two week break for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Chivas USA will return to The Home Depot Center on Saturday, June 26, when the team faces FC Dallas at 7:30 p.m. PT. At the moment, FC Dallas is just two point ahead of the Red-and-White in the Western Conference, holding a record of 2-2-6. The June 26 match will include a special ‘Kids Pack’ offer, giving fans a ticket for a child 16 and younger free with the purchase of an adult ticket. BORNSTEIN ARRIVES IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH UNITED STATES NATIONAL TEAM: Last Wednesday, Chivas USA defender and co-captain Jonathan Bornstein was named to the United States National Team for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The team arrived in Johannesburg on Monday, and trained for the first time in South Africa on Tuesday, and U.S. Soccer’s website has an interview with Bornstein. The U.S. will open its sixth consecutive World Cup finals tournament against England on June 12 in Rustenburg, and will follow that game with matches against Slovenia on June 18 in Johannesburg and Algeria on June 23 in Tshwane/Pretoria. ‘CHIVAS AT THE PARK L.A.’ CONTINUES SATURDAY, JUNE 5 AT WHITSETT IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD: Chivas USA has kicked off the popular ‘Chivas at the Park L.A.’ program, and will continue the series of soccer clinics taking place in various parks throughout Los Angeles with a session on Saturday, June 5 at Whitsett Recreation Center at 680 Whitsett Ave in North Hollywood. The clinics, which offer participating boys and girls ages 5-15 the opportunity to learn soccer techniques and practice drills that highlight teamwork in an environment that promotes the importance of fitness for the entire family, cost just $5 and include 90 minutes of soccer instruction, a Chivas at the Park t-shirt, and a certificate of completion. ‘MARCH TO THE MATCH’ WITH BAND OF THE GAME AND FANS STARTS AT 6:30 ON SATURDAY, JUNE 26: A new tradition has come to The Home Depot Center in 2010, with Chivas USA fans, the Union Ultras supporters group, and the Band of the Game (from Franklin High School), all gathering for the ‘March to the Match.’ With everyone making noise and getting ready for the match, all fans are encouraged to join the group when it leaves from Lot 11 at 6:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, June 26, continuing this new event which will occur prior to every home match the Red-and-White play. CHIVAS USA YOUTH TEAMS FINISH DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY SEASON: The Chivas USA Youth Teams have finished their Development Academy seasons after playing in the 2010 Spring Showcase in Sarasota, Florida. The U-16 Team earned a 2-0-1 record at the event, topping teams from St. Louis and Texas, and earning a draw with a club from Pennsylvania, while the U-18’s won their first two matches of the tournament. In the 2010 Development Academy season, the Chivas USA U-18 team finished in third place of the SoCal Division of the Development Academy’s West Conference with an 9-7-0 record, while the U-16 ended in fourth place with a 7-7-2 record. CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA CLINCH A SPOT IN THE COPA LIBERTADORES SEMIFINAL: Chivas de Guadalajara is currently on hiatus after the spring season ended, but has clinched a spot in the semifinal of Copa Libertadores and will face Universidad de Chile in the semifinal on July 28, after four Chivas de Guadalajara players return from international duty from the FIFA World Cup.  For more information on the team, please visit Guadalajara’s official website at www.chivascampeon.com.
