WC2010: Braun on USA vs. Slovenia
Hello again Chivas USA fans! The U.S National Team played their second match in the World Cup against Slovenia, and like many Americans, I was excited to root for my team.
Although the U.S. started out slow, they were able to come back from a 2-0 loss to tie the match. I have to admit, I was a little nervous when Slovenia was up by two goals. However, the U.S. was able to come back in the second half. Though they had a good first half, they played with a lot of intensity and showed a lot of character in the second half. Unfortunately for us, we got that goal called back that could have represented the victory for the team.
The call back of the goal was one of the worst calls I have ever seen in my time. Calls like those irritate the fans, as well as the player because of the impact it could have had in the match. I hope that the call doesn’t come back to haunt the team.
The goal scorers were definitely the players that stole the show. Landon Donovan stepped up to the match when he needed to and was able to score a goal. Also, [Michael] Bradley was solid throughout the match and was able to score the game-tying goal, which was very important for the team.
The U.S. now needs to go into the next match against Algeria and come out with a victory in order to pass to the next round. The biggest thing that the team needs to work on is not giving up early goals. Also, considering it’s the World Cup, an early goal can be crucial and can always hurt the team when you’re trying to come up from behind.
Algeria is a solid team that is in the World Cup for a reason. They are also a team that shouldn’t be underestimated or overlooked. I think most people thought the match against Slovenia was going to be an easy match, but the team has to go into each match with the same winning mentality. The next match is going to be a tough one, but I think the team will be able to go in and play for the victory. The U.S. will come out with a 2-0 victory over Algeria and obtain the points needed in order qualify for the next round.
Those are my two cents on the U.S. team. Hope you’ve enjoyed. Cheers!
