Seth Rubinroit, intern for cdchivasusa.com, will be sharing his
opinions on the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the play of Chivas USA's
Jonathan Bornstein and the rest of the U.S. Men's National Team as they
strive for glory in South Africa. If you have opinions of your own that

Chivas
USA defender Jonathan Bornstein again did not see any action in the
United States’ second World Cup match, a 2-2 draw against Slovenia on
Friday. However, unlike the first match, Bornstein had to be cringing as he watched his defensive teammates, especially in the first half.

Slovenia
scored their first goal when Valter Brisa found himself completely
unmarked. Zlatan Ljubijankic scored Slovenia’s second goal of the first
half when the defense appeared to try to draw him offside, but
Ljubijankic managed to stay onside, find a gap, and score with nobody
around him.

The
defense played significantly better in the second half, as the United
States made a spirited comeback behind goals from Landon Donavan and
Michael Bradley.

Much
has been made about the controversial foul call against Maurice Edu
that nullified a goal that would have given the United States the lead
in the 86th
minute. The United States team handled the call in a mature fashion, asking
the referee for an explanation which they did not receive.

“He just ignored us,” Donavan said after the game. “Or he didn’t understand.”

As
a result of the draw against Slovenia, the United States’ final match
in the group stage on Wednesday against Algeria takes on much greater
significance. If the United States wins, they guarantee that they will
advance. If they tie, their fate will depend on the result of the
Slovenia-England match, which will be played at the same time as the
United States-Algeria match.
