Gomez to train with Chivas USA
Mexican goal-scoring champion Herculez Gomez will be training with Chivas USA this week following the conclusion of the Mexican league regular season this past weekend.
Last week Gomez confirmed to Mexican media outlets that he would be training in Los Angeles as he waits to see if he will receive a national team camp call-up from U.S. head coach Bob Bradley.
Bradley, who coached Chivas USA in 2006, lives near the Home Depot Center and still attends scrimmages often.
Gomez became the first American player to top the scoring charts in a top-flight league overseas as his 10 goals in his debut season in Mexico put him in a three-way tie for the scoring crown. His Mexican club, Puebla, did not advance to the liguilla (playoffs), falling six points short.
He told MLSsoccer.com earlier this month that his contract with Puebla expires with the conclusion of the current Mexican season. Should Gomez seek a return to MLS, the Wizards would have the right of first refusal.
Gomez will not be at practice on Monday morning although he is expected to arrive at some point this week.
