Western Conference Recap: Week 5
Chivas USA earned its second consecutive home victory defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 at The Home Depot Center on Saturday. With the win, the Goats remained in the second spot of the Western Conference standings, just two points below first place FC Dallas.
The Dallas squad earned three points after a 1-0 win over East Coast team the New England Revolution; Blas Perez notched the only goal of the match. Dallas holds a record of 4-1-0 (W-L-T) and will head to Toronto in search of three more points at BMO Field this weekend.
Toronto FC played the LA Galaxy to a 2-2 draw in Canadian territory. Despite Toronto leading inthe 90th minute, the Galaxy notched the equalizing goal in stoppage time. The Galaxy will have a bye week in MLS due to their participation in CONCACAF’s Champions League; will host Mexican side Monterrey on Wednesday.
Also taking part of the CCL tournament, Seattle Sounders took a 2-1 loss at Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Two first half goals buried the Sounders to their third loss this season and tied them to the bottom of the Conference standings. The Sounders will host Mexican Liga MX Santos Laguna on Wednesday at Century Link Field.
The Colorado Rapids were close to earning their first win of the season on Saturday against the Portland Timbers. After the Rapids took a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute, the Timbers bounced back to earn the final 2-2 draw. The Rapids will host the second leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup on Saturday, hosting Real Salt Lake at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The San Jose Earthquakes and Vancouver Whitecaps FC will match-up this Saturday; both teams enter the match with losses. The Earthquakes took a 2-0 loss at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday.
Due to the Sounders’ CCL match on Wednesday, Chivas USA’s first game at Seattle was rescheduled for September 4. The Red-and-White will host the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, April 13 at The Home Depot Center. Click here to purchase your tickets.
