Chivas USA’s U18 and U16 Teams returned to action in U.S. Soccer Development Academy on Sunday facing San Juan Soccer Club in Mather, California. While the U18’s started off the year with a loss, the U16s remained firm and earned a 3-1 victory over San Juan.

The U18 team began the second half of the 2013 season with a 4-3 loss to San Juan’s U18 squad, their first loss in five games. Red-and-White U16 forward Amaya Adonis played with the 18’s and put Chivas USA in the lead at halftime. In the first half of the season, Adonis scored five goals with the U16s and has been recently playing with the 18’s. In the second half, 2012 Sueño MLS winner Armando Flores scored another goal for the Goats, his third of the season, but it was not enough to give Chivas the win.

With the loss, the young Goats remain in fifth place with a 5-3-5 (W-L-T) record. The U18s will look to regain their winning ways when they face Strikers FC next Saturday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. PT at the University of California, Riverside.

The Red-and-White’s U16 team opened up the scoreboard early in the match as Caleb Calvert notched his first of two goals in the tenth minute. A few minutes later, San Juan would find the equalizer and it wouldn’t be until the 56th minute that Calvert would once again put Chivas USA in the lead for his ninth goal of the season. Alejandro Vergara notched the third goal for the Goats in the 80th minute for the final 3-1 Red-and-White victory.

With the win, the 16s remain undefeated in seven games in USSDA action and are second in the Southwest Division with 27 points, just three points away from first place Real Salt Lake AZ. Up next, the young Goats will face Strikers FC on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. PT in the University of California, Riverside.

Chivas USA’s Youth Academy will be hosting the first of three I.D. Camps on Monday, Jan. 28 in Veterans Park in Pomona. Academy coaches and First Team head coach Jose Luis ‘Chelis’ Sanchez Solá will be in search of Southern California talent for the new upcoming U13/14 squad.
