Youth Academy: Celtic Cup Recap
Chivas USA’s Youth Academy teams concluded their participation in Celtic Cup this weekend as the teams continue preparing for State Cup that kicks off Feb. 9.
The U11 team kicked off action early morning on Sunday, only to defeat AC Milan 3-0 in their final group match. Guillermo Lopez, Diego Lopez and Victor Perez each scored for the Red-and-White. With the win, the young Goats were able to advance to semi-finals, but did not get to the final match after falling 3-2 to CCV Stars Las Vegas.
Moving on, the U10s were unable to get out of the group phase even though they finished tied for first place, but due to goal differential, did not advance in the tournament. In their only match on Sunday morning, the U10s took a 3-2 win over Scripps United. The team will now prepare for their next match.
The U9s kicked the morning off on the right foot. The young Goats disputed the semi-final match and took a 5-3 win over Pumas, allowing them to move on to the final. In the final match, the U9s earned a 2-1 victory over host team Celtic, earning the Celtic Cup for the Red-and-White. Also earning the cup in their category, the U8s took a 1-0 win playing under the U9 Flight 2 category.
The fun doesn’t stop with Celtic Cup for the Youth Academy. The U8-U11 squads will now prepare for their next tournament participation; the teams will take part of Real SoCal’s Copa Real Invitational that begins Saturday, Jan. 19- Jan. 21 in Cal State Northridge and Pierce College.
