With MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, Jan. 17, most teams have turned their focus onto the Player Combine in Fort Lauderdale. But before that, check out what’s happening around the Western Conference:

Acquisitions

FC Dallas announced the acquisition of Peruvian National Team Goalkeeper Raul Fernandez, signed London Woodbury as a Homegrown player and agreed to terms with former NY Red Bull Stephen Keel. The Galaxy has agreed to terms with former Houston midfielder Colin Clarke and returning players Mike Magee and Brian Perk. It was an exciting week for the Portland Timbers as they inked their second Homegrown contract upon signing Steven Evans from the U23 squad and acquiring Diego Valeri as a Designated Player. Also signing from the Academy, Seattle Sounders acquired 19-year-old DeAndre Yedlin as their first homegrown player. Vancouver Whitecaps announced the acquisition of Brad Rusin on Friday, hailing from Denmark’s HB Køge.

Re-signings

Colorado Rapids re-signed defender Marvell Wyne and midfielder Hendry Thomas.

Coaching staff

Chivas USA wasn’t the only one who welcomed Jose Luis Sanchez Solá to the club this week. FC Dallas named Brent Erwin assistant coach on Tuesday. Erwin most recently served as assistant coach at the Southern Methodist University in Texas. Across the hall, the LA Galaxy named Pat Noonan assistant coach after the former midfielder announced his retirement and appointed Jovan Kirovski as technical director.

International Camp

Chivas USA forward Juan Agudelo was called into the U.S. National Team January Training Camp last Sunday ahead of the Jan. 29th match vs. Canada. Western Conference players that will be joining Agudelo are: Edson Buddle, Eddie Johnson, Chris Wondolowski, Justin Morrow, Omar Gonzalez, A.J De la Garza, Tony Beltran, Steven Beitashour, Kyle Beckerman, and Brad Evans.

MLS

Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, MLS W.O.R.K.S, held Soccer Night in Newton, Connecticut, in an effort to help the community heal after a mass shooting in an local elementary school on Dec. 10th of last year. Players from all over the league travelled east to play mini-soccer games and spend time with the affected families.

Wednesday morning, all clubs unveiled their 2013 regular season schedule. This year, Chivas USA will host New York Red Bulls and will play its first match on the 4th of July since the 2007 season (away match vs. FC Dallas). Click here to download Chivas USA’s 2013 season schedule.
