Chivas USA Youth Academy Update: December 18
Chivas USA U16 3, Nomads 1
The Chivas USA U16 Academy boys played their last game of the 2012 year against the La Jolla Nomads this past Saturday. The boys were in a confident mood and wanted to finish the year on a high note.
Alejandro Vergara started the game on the right foot by beating two players on the right hand side, cutting inside on his favored left foot and curled a ball far post in the upper left corner. It was a vintage strike from the US Youth National Team player. The Goats continued to dominate and dictate the match and were rewarded for their domination. Josh Perez, another youth international beat two defenders on the top of the 18, and as the Nomads defenders were scrambling back they fouled Josh and the team was awarded a PK. Center back and Captain Jeffery Quezada stepped up and buried the penalty kick and the Goats strolled into halftime up 2-0. The second half was more of the same, however a Nomads counter attack off a Chivas corner kick resulted in a goal and the game became much closer. Finally the goats added a third goal and put the game to rest as Alejandro Vergara got his second goal of the game after a nice team build up and great pass from Tommy Fraher that led to AJ's brace.
The U16's finish an impressive first half of the season with a record of 7-2-3 and are currently in 2nd place in the Western Conference 6 points behind RSL but the goats still have two games in hand. They will resume next year with their first match against San Juan Soccer Club up north on January 27th.
Chivas USA U18 4, Nomads 1
Chivas USA dominated play right from the 1st whistle. Chivas finally got on the scoreboard by a Marky Delgado PK. Armando Flores broke through the Nomads back line, beat the keeper, and slotted the ball toward the open goal. The Nomads center back tried to keep the ball out and used his hands, so not only did Chivas get a PK but he was red carded and Nomads had to play the rest of the match short a man. Half ended 1-0. Romario Lomeli scored in the first few minutes of the second half followed quickly by Armando Flores scoring the third. Justice Duerksen scored the fourth and final goal. The team played very attractive soccer and were able to create may opportunities heading into the Holiday break.
