Chivas USA heading to Indianapolis

The 2013 MLS SuperDraft will take place in the Indiana Convention Center on Jan. 17

The 2013 Chivas USA SuperDraft pick will be selected at the Indiana Convention Center on Thursday, Jan. 17. The two-round draft will begin at 9 a.m. PT, with the Red-and-White having the second overall selection after finishing in 18th place in the general standings (draft is held in reverse order). The Goats lost their second round selection in the trade with New England Revolution to send Blair Gavin and acquire Shalrie Joseph.

The MLS Player Combine will take place before the SuperDraft at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Combine will consist of four squads and will have three gamedays: Jan. 11, Jan. 13 and Jan. 15.

Last year, Chivas USA had one selection, choosing University of Maryland’s Casey Townsend in the fifth overall selection. The rookie made 17 appearances for the Goats (10 starts) and scored the club’s season-opening goal in the 1-nil victory over Real Salt Lake in mid-March.

The following Tuesday, Jan. 22, a four-round Supplemental Draft will be held via teleconference. The Goats maintain their natural second, 21st, 40th and 59th selections. In 2012, Chivas acquired a first round pick after trading Paulo Nagamura to Sporting Kansas City and their third round pick in exchange for Ryan Smith. The second round consisted of three trades, allowing the club to make four selections: Brian Rowe, Daniel Steres, Fabian Kling and Kevin Venegas.

If you plan on being in the Sunshine State during those dates, fans are encouraged to attend all three double headers for $10 each.
