Blair Gavin joined Chivas USA as the 10th overall pick of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft and has since become a key player for the club. In his first season with the Red-and-White, Gavin scored three goals in 16 games (all starts) before his season was ended by a hamstring injury. In 2011, the Arizona native struggled to gain playing time due to relapses of his previous hamstring injury, playing in 18 games (11 starts) and adding three assists. He came to Chivas USA after three years at the University of Akron, where he scored seven career goals and added six assists, and recorded the game-winning penalty kick in a shootout against North Carolina to advance Akron to the 2009 NCAA National Championship game.
Gavin, who spent his high school years in Arizona, played club soccer for the Sereno (Ariz.) Soccer Club, which was ranked No. 1 in the nation; his squad won the Arizona state cup four years in a row and was victorious at several nationally-acclaimed tournaments. He played the summer of 2007 with the Bradenton Academies of the PDL, and was also of 20 players called into the U-18 National Team training camp in January 2007 as the squad prepared for the 14th Copa Chivas Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. His parents are Mike and Stacy Gavin and he is the younger brother of former LA Galaxy midfielder Michael Gavin. He enjoys surfing and watching both college and professional football.
As a member of the U-20 National Team pool, Gavin scored a goal in the championship match against Honduran club CD Victoria in February 2007.
Played three years at the University of Akron, scoring seven career goals with six assists. In 2009, his junior season, Gavin was named First Team All-Mid-American Conference and All-Great Lakes Region First Team. Gavin scored five of his seven career goals during his junior season and his game-winning penalty kick advanced Akron past North Carolina into the NCAA National Championship game.
