Bobby Burling returned to Chivas USA in August of 2012 for his second stint with the club after being acquired via trade from the Montreal Impact. Burling now enters the 2014 campaign in his eighth season in Major League Soccer.
In 2013, the center back made 18 starts in 23 appearances despite nursing injuries. During the season, Burling’s outstanding work on the field did not go unnoticed, as he earned a spot on MLSsoccer.com’s Team of the Week for his performance in Week 5 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and was among the five players nominated by local media as the club’s candidates for the 2013 MLS All-Star Team.
Burling’s solid play on the Red-and-White’s back line, along with his leadership and experience, earned the 6-foot-4 defender a contract extension in September, which will keep him with the club through 2015.
The Clear Lake City, Texas native was drafted by the LA Galaxy in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft out of Loyola Marymount University. Burling eventually signed with Chivas USA three months later where he made 23 appearances from 2007-09. Burling went on to play with the San Jose Earthquakes before being picked in the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft by Montreal.
