Jorge Vergara Madrigal, Owner
Founder of Multidesarrollo, which focuses on the growth in all aspects of the individual, that searches for success at the personal, emotional, physical, social and economic levels.
Upon completing high school at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Vergara searched out to fulfill his dream of reaching success while working in different capacities, such as text translator, real-estate salesman, restaurateur, among others.
With that in mind, and with only $10,000 he acquired through loan, Vergara began the most important project of his professional life: Omnilife, which today stands among the 200 leading companies in Mexico, with a presence in 19 countries as well as six million people worldwide who distribute the products of Omnilife and Angelissima.
On Oct. 30, 2002, Vergara acquired Club Deportivo Guadalajara, which marked the beginning of the changing of the guard with respect to running a soccer club. From his arrival, the businessman from Jalisco, Mex. promised to make Chivas the best club in Mexico, have the best youth academy in the nation, and position the Rebaño Sagrado among the elite clubs worldwide.
Under Vergara’s watch, Chivas has achieved several goals in competition, such as finishing as champions of the Apertura 2006, runners-up in the 2004 Clausura season, runners-up in Copa Libertadores 2010, runners-up in CONCACAF’s Copa de Campeones in 2007, one of Copa Libertadores semifinalists in 2005 and 2006, a semifinalist in Copa Sudamericana 2008, champion of the InterLiga tournament in 2009, as well as setting a record of eight consecutive wins at the beginning of a season during the Torneo Bicentenario 2010.
In addition, Vergara has also participated in important projects of film, art, music, architecture and professional writing.
The achievements of Chivas de Guadalajara under the leadership of the businessman have not been limited solely to the sports realm. In 2010 he finished one of the most ambitious projects since taking over the club – the construction of the team’s own stadium, Estadio Omnilife, which he promised to build immediately upon becoming owner.
As Mexico’s most modern and impressive soccer venue, the spectacular stadium is designed in the shape of a volcano, with a cloud hovering above it, which allows the venue to amicably blend in with its natural surroundings. The stadium was inaugurated on July 30, 2010 with a grand game, in which Chivas defeated Manchester United, one of the most storied and elite clubs in the world, 3-2.
Angelica Fuentes Tellez, Owner
Angelica Fuentes Tellez is one of the most influential and recognized women in Latin America for her successful business career and her relentless commitment to Latina women who she constantly motivates with her motto: “Work within yourself, exceed your limits, raise your goals and better yourself.”
Her diligent firmness in running her businesses have landed her in the position she currently operates as Executive President and shareholder of Grupo Omnilife-Chivas, which she has positioned as one of Mexico’s 200 most important companies. Among the company’s most recognizable brands are Omnilife, Chivas Rayadas del Guadalajara, Chivas USA and Angelissima, and because of that, along with her extensive professional career, the press has named her “The Commander of Business.”
In the span of 20 years, she served as President of Grupo Imperial Corporativo, one of the most pristegious Mexican companies in the hydrocarbon industry, consolidating her role, establishing a strong presence and a sectoral leadership. She was also President of the Asociación Mexicana de Gas Natural (Mexican Natural Gas Association), becoming a key leader in promoting needed reforms in Mexico. In addition, she had the honor of representing Mexico at the Energy Business Network of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), an international organization which she presided for two consecutive years.
Fuentes has been awarded by several national and international organizations. One of the most important honors she received was the Mujer Innovadora y Destacado Liderazgo (Inovative Woman and Prominent Leadership), which she was handed by Mrs. Michelle Bachelet on behalf of APEC, which includes 21 nations.
Because of her influence in the development of public politics, as well as her relentless philanthropic commitment to the most marginalized communities, children, women, sports and art, Fuentes presides or participates in different organizations that she dedicates part of her time to.
Co-Founder and President of Fundacion Omnilife, she is involved in the most ambitious education project in the Northern part of Mexico, building and operating the Educare Ciudad Juarez school, conceived as the core of development for one of the most marginalized communities in the country, as well as educating children to be capable to create an impact and achieve major changes in their families and consequently in their community.
For over 25 years, Fuentes has been involved in the development of the Latina woman. In 2010, she launched her prestigious cosmetics line Angelíssima, hand-in-hand with her philosophy of feminine self-empowerment. In addition, she participates in the Gender Gap Group of the Global Economic Forum, with the objective to diminish the economic and social gap of Mexican women, in conjunction with fellow women who share her knowledge and experience in the feminine sector. Fuentes also participates in the United Nations’ program, Girl Up, which focuses on the development of marginalized young ladies around the world.
As Co-President of the American Business Council (ABC), Fuentes is a mentor to the new generation of young leaders interested in generating a change in their communities. She also participates in numerous influential organizations such as Grupo XXI, Grupo Por Mexico, Americas Society, Fundación Comunitaria de la Frontera Norte and Fundación del Empresariado Chihuahuense (FECHAC).
Her interest in philanthropy and art is reflected in her active participation in Fundación Olga y Rufino Tamayo, Patronato Museo del Niño (located in Ciudad Juarez, Mex.), TATE Gallery, Consejo Tecnológico of Monterrey Campus Ciudad Juárez, LeadershipGroup of the Regional Economic Development Project (Paso del Norte Health Foundation), Fundación Unidos por un México Vivo, FEMAP, Salud y Desarrollo Comunitario de Ciudad Juárez, among others.
Fuentes was raised in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and has a degree in finance from the University of Texas. Today, she resides in Guadalajara, Mexico, and is married to recognized businessman, Jorge Vergara. The couple has two daughters, Valentina and Mariaignacia.
Jose David, President and Chief Business Officer
Born on Feb. 6, 1953 in Veracruz, Mex., David is a well-respected businessman with extensive experience both in Mexico and the U.S., specializing in administrative and organizational work. For the last 13 years David has resided in the U.S., seven of which while working in the Los Angeles market as his base of operations.
During his career David has applied his expertise with a number of Mexican multi-national corporations, including Megamex Foods, LLC, a subsidiary of Herdez del Fuerte as financial director, and serving as president of Paratec Elastomers, LLC, a subsidiary company of Grupo KUO (formerly known as Grupo DESC).
David earned his MBA from Cranfield School of Management in England and graduated from the Universidad Iberoamericana, where he obtained his degree in Business Administration.
Dennis te Kloese, Sporting President
Dennis te Kloese was named Sporting President of Chivas USA and Chivas de Guadalajara on December 5, 2012. He returns to the Red-and-White, where he first began in 2005 as Technical Director.
Te Kloese, with over 10 years of experience in various soccer directing positions, has previously served as a scout for Club Guadalajara, Chivas USA’s Soccer Director, and Director of Tigres UANL’s Youth Academy. He was most recently General Coordinator of the Mexican Soccer Federation’s National Youth Teams.
Te Kloese, a native of Holland, began his involvement in soccer as a player. He played as a centerback at various levels in his native country, spending some time at the famed Ajax youth academy. When his playing career was cut short by injuries in his early twenties, te Kloese returned to school and finished his education at the University of Amsterdam. Before coming to Mexico, te Kloese worked at Ajax in international relations and scouting.
Juan Francisco Palencia, Director of Soccer
Juan Francisco Palencia began his professional playing career as a product of Cruz Azul. In addition, Palencia also played for Chivas de Guadalajara and Pumas UNAM in Mexico’s Primera Division, as well MLS’ Chivas USA. The Mexico City native also spent a season with Spanish club Espanyol de Barcelona.
During his career in Mexico’s top division, Palencia was part of three championship teams: with Cruz Azul in the fall of 1997 and during the Clausura 2009 and 2011 seasons with Pumas.
As a member of the Mexican National Team, Palencia was part of two World Cups – France ‘98 and Korea-Japan 2002. The forward also participated in other prestigious tournaments such as Copa America in Bolivia 1997, Paraguay 1999 and Peru 2004, as well the Confederations Cup in Saudi Arabia 1997 and Mexico 1999.
Palencia completed a semester at the ENDIT School of Coaching, located in Mexico City.
