Viewing Party MEX vs CRO @ Plaza Mexico

20 June 10:56 de la mañana

Chivas USA midfielders Oswaldo Minda of Ecuador and Marvin Chavez of Honduras will clash in FIFA World Cup action when their National Teams face each other on Friday at the Arena da Baixada.  Their second match in Group E is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. (PT) and will serve to close out the group’s action until Wednesday, June 25.

In the history of matchups between both national teams, Ecuador takes the minimal lead, earning three wins over the Catrachos’ two victory.  The most common outcome to an Ecuador-Honduras match has been a draw, with a total of eight recorded by FIFA

In Ecuador’s first match of the tournament, La Tri took the lead over Switzerland, but suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the last minute of the game.  Honduras, however, has yet to score their first goal of the tournament, falling 3-0 to France in their opening match.

With both sides having yet to earn points in the tournament, both teams will be urging to win tonight to keep their hopes of advancing to the Round of 16 alive.  A loss by either team could knock them out of the World Cup, sending either player back to his domestic club and making him eligible for League action as the Red-and-White host Real Salt Lake on June 28.

Don’t miss the exciting matchup between Ecuador and Honduras by watching ESPN and Univision starting at 3 p.m. (PT).  Chivas USA will be supporting both Red-and-White players, but may the best team win!

Hey soccer fans, it’s me Avi, and I’M BACK!  How is this World Cup treating you so far?!  Let me tell you, our locker room is out of control.  Now that we are starting to find out who’s in and who’s getting knocked out, everybody is trying to fight for points so they can win their brackets.

We have Argentines rooting for Argentina…boring. A lot of people going for the United States, also Mexico, and obviously Coach [Cabrera] is going for Colombia.  Things now are really cool, with our brackets and with a pot we made.  It’s like a draft kind of thing, where you pick numbers on who’s going to go first in the draft and then you get to pick one team and it goes from there.  So each player has four teams and mine are: Italy, the Netherlands, Japan and South Korea, so any time they beat I get three points and if they tie, I get one point, and the winner takes the pot, so now you know who to support!  Me and Carlos Alvarez are tied with points, so every single day, he comes trying to count his points and figuring out who’s winning and what not… poor guy, helpless…

Also, right now there are A LOT of upset people around!  I shouldn’t say one team in particular, today, but you all know who went down today… [cough] Spain [cough].  Our team’s PR manager is from Spain, so she’s a little bit mad today and doesn’t let me talk about it… haha.  Everyone is kinda shocked in this World Cup because someone is always coming out of nowhere, like Chile! HELLO! They just opened the door like “hey, you know, we are heeeere!”

A bunch of the guys and I are also checking out a few viewing parties around the area.  We went to watch the US game the other day and it was really cool.  Bobby [Burling] even painted his face red, white and blue.  And then he lifted up his shirt and he had the big U, and his other friends had the S and the A, and I was like “Pal, you’re going craaaaazy!”  So patriotic!

What time is it?!

Oh no! Alright guys, the next game is about to start so…

¿Qué pasa amigos del fútbol? Soy yo Avi, ¡acá estoy DE VUELTA!

¡No!

Chivas USA’s Ante Jazic and Oswaldo Minda culminated this year’s international duty after Tuesday night’s final FIFA date.

Red-and-White defender Jazic was unavailable for Tuesday’s match against Honduras due to illness, but the Canadians took a brutal 8-1 loss to the home team. After the loss, the Canadians dropped to third place and out of contention for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. In the World Cup qualifiers, Jazic helped Les Rouges to a 6-2-3 (W-L-T) record.

Ecuadorian midfielder Minda came into the match for La Tri in the 70th minute, helping the squad to a 1-1 draw with Venezuela. With the draw, Ecuador moved up to second place of CONMEBOL standings with 17 points, just three points away from first place Argentina. Ecuador will continue looking for a spot in the 2014 FIFA World Cup on March 26, 2013 when CONMEBOL qualifiers resume.

Both players will return to Los Angeles and prepare for Chivas USA’s final two games of the 2012 season against Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas.
