Jose Luis Sanchez Solá: Quick Facts

By Olivia Cervantes

The day Chivas USA fans had been waiting for finally arrived. Jose Luis Sanchez Solá, also known as ‘El Chelis,’ was named the Red-and-White’s head coach Wednesday morning. Aside from the information you can find about Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola in the press release, here are a few facts about the new man in charge:

-He’s not a stranger to MLS action; back in 2010 while coaching Mexico’s Liga MX Puebla FC, Sanchez lead the team in the 2010 edition of SuperLiga where the team reached the semi-finals against New England Revolution. Does that ring a bell? Midfielder Shalrie Joseph was part of the squad that beat Sanchez’ former club but the match allowed the Mexican coach to see first-hand Joseph’s on-field abilities.

-Despite his very fashionable attire, just like Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara, Sanchez does not wear socks.

-Sanchez is a very disciplined man and coach. He attended military school from primary to high school.

-'El Chelis' lived in Canada for over six months, playing semi-professional soccer with First Portuguese.

-Aside from his love for soccer, Sanchez is also a fan of other sports. He lists the New England Patriots as his NFL team and follows the New York Yankees in MLB.

-He has three children; two women and one man (Isidro Sanchez, former midfielder for Puebla FC and of the Canadian National Team.)

-When he was studying to earn his coaching license, Sanchez would make the three-hour daily roundtrip to Mexico City from Puebla, never missing a class and graduating with honors. Dedication.

-He’s an avid tweeter. Sanchez is known for responding to both positive and negative feedback. Make sure to give him a follow: @ElChelis
