It took Chivas USA 158 minutes to score the first goal of the 2013 season. And the man in charge of scoring the first goal was forward Juan Agudelo, who is now nominated for MLS Goal of the Week and MLSsoccer.com's Top Performers!

Just as the Red-and-White were down 1-0 to FC Dallas at the 68th minute, Walter Vilchez served a long ball over the top to Agudelo, who with two Dallas defenders, crossed the ball to his left and unleashed a strike for his first goal of the season, and the equalizer for Chivas USA. The Goats went on to earn their first win of the season after Oswaldo Minda and Giovani Casillas scored for the Red-and-White.

Last season was challenging for Chivas USA, but above all, there were three moments of 2012 that are up for the L.A. Sports Awards. Below are the nominated moments:

-Chivas USA earned their first win of the season on away turf. On March 24, the Red-and-White travelled to Utah to face Real Salt Lake in the third match of the season. In the 72nd minute of the match, defender Ante Jazic made a cross that RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando attempted to grab but let go, allowing Townsend to score his first professional and winning goal of the match.

-A goal from Jose Correa in the first SuperClasico of 2012 gave the Red-and-White their first victory against the LA Galaxy since 2007. The goal came in the second half of the match after former Chivas USA defender David Junior Lopes stopped a ball with his arm, resulting in a penalty, and the win for the Goats.

-The Red-and-White ended the 2012 season on a high note. What seemed to be a 2-nil win for FC Dallas on Oct. 28, 2012, Chivas USA made a dramatic turnaround, earning a draw in the dying minutes of the match. Laurent Courtois notched the first goal for the Goats in the 90th minute of the match, ten minutes after coming in to the game as a sub. In the 93rd minute, Juan Agudelo was able to get the second goal for the Goats, and the final 2-2 draw.

It doesn’t surprise many to hear that Dan Kennedy’s saves kept Chivas USA alive in many games, and the second match against Colorado Rapids was no different.

The Red-and-White were down one goal in the 60th minute when Omar Cummings headed a cross by Hunter Freeman to the left side of the goal. Luckily for Chivas, Kennedy’s cat-like reflexes avoided that shot from hitting the back of the net. Fortunately for the Goats, Juan Pablo Angel notched the equalizing goal for a final 1-1 draw with the home team.

It didn’t take much for Dan Kennedy to make a good impression in the 2012 season and earn the MLS Player of the Week in the sixth week, becoming the first goalkeeper to earn the award in the year.

Kennedy earned that honor after a stupendous match against Toronto FC where the Red-and-White earned their third consecutive victory on the road. The Goats were up by one goal by the 70th minute, when Toronto forward Danny Koevermans flicked a cross at goal; fortunately for Chivas, Kennedy was in the right place at the right time to prevent the ball from crossing the goal line. Minutes before the end of the match, Koevermans continued looking for a goal but Kennedy saved and kicked the ball out for a corner kick in favor of the Canadians.
