HEAD COACH – ROBIN FRASER:
Thoughts on game: “First off obviously that’s embarrassing for the magnitude of this game to have the result fall the way that it did. It’s certainly not good enough. I think we started the game too tentatively and it just put us on the back foot from the very beginning.”
Moving forward: “It’s not like you can run and hide from these results, they are what they are, we have to move forward and, you have to really take accountability and be accountable for some of the things that went wrong. Through the four goals they were all turnovers, with little to no pressure and that’s not good enough for sure. In terms of our decisions with the ball they were not good enough; I think that there is plenty of blame to go around everywhere.”
GOALKEEPER – DAN KENNEDY:
Thoughts on the match tonight: “We were outclassed, we were lucky we got out of the game with a 4-0 score. I am at a bit of a loss for words. They just have a lot of class on their team. If you give them as many opportunities as we gave them tonight then they are going to put away some goals, and that is exactly what happened. The result was not much different from the last time we played them and that is what disappoints me the most. We learn from this and move on.”
Missing element to be able to knock in goal: “I think it’s become a little bit mental now, it’s on our minds and one of the problems that we are having. It is very frustrating. I know there was a point in the match where it was only 1-0 and we had a couple scoring opportunities that we did not capitalize on. Those are the opportunities that we need to finish to stay in a game like this. When you do not get those you continue to open yourself up and push for a goal, and that is when they scored the second, third and fourth.”
DEFENDER – DANNY CALIFF:
Thoughts on match: “It looked like essentially the same game as last time. It felt like a track meet and we made the same mistakes as we did before. We had a couple really good opportunities in the second half and a good fifteen minutes but we just didn’t convert. We were not able to move the score up 2-1, and they just took control of the game again.”
Will be Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Colby O’Donis! That’s right. The creator of the song “What you Got” featuring Akon will be singing the American national anthem this Sunday, August 12 for the SuperClásico. Colby has also participated in hit songs like Lady GaGa’s Grammy-nominated hit “Just Dance.”
Check out Colby's hit single:
Chivas USA’s Dan Kennedy and Juan Pablo Angel were joined by LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez in a press conference held today in The Home Depot Center ahead of this Sunday’s SuperClásico. As the four players walked into the TV Studio the tension and awkwardness was felt instantly in the room full of media members [see photo above].
Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy was the first to open the conference to talk about the team’s defensive line saying, “We’re among the best because there’s a great relationship within the team. Galaxy has a great attack, as we saw in the last game… But I’m confident in our group.”
When asked about the importance of the SuperClásico and whether he wants to score against his former club, forward Juan Pablo Angel stated, “Clásicos are meant to be won, not played… I don’t care if I score; I just want to win.”
Yet another exciting edition of the BarraClásico was disputed last night ahead of this Sunday’s SuperClásico match. For those that don’t know, the BarraClásico is a trio of games between Chivas USA and LA Galaxy Front Office staff and Supporter Groups.
Chivas USA’s Front Office took yet ANOTHER win last night, this time with a 4-3 final score. It was the Marketing Department’s time to shine as Promotions Coordinator and Front Office top goal scorer Kevin Ramirez scored his two goals (adding to the two he scored in previous editions); Street Team member Jesus also scored a pair for the Front Office adding to his two goals he counted with.
Meanwhile, Black Army 1850 was looking for their first victory of the year against the LA Riot Squad. The match was looking like a 1-1 draw (BA goal scored by Angel Mendoza), but the Galactic supporters took the 2-1 victory in the last minutes.
Last match of the day was between Union Ultras and the Angel City Brigade. The Ultras had lost their first match 1-0, but took a 3-1 victory in the second. The third match ended in a 1-1 draw, but due to goal aggregate that BOTH teams agreed on, the Ultras took the Supporters Trophy.
Joining the Supporters, Chivas USA Forward and Captain Alejandro Moreno as well as Cesar Romero were in attendance last night. On behalf of Chivas USA, we’d like to thank everyone who came out to support our club. Now it’s on to getting the win the win this Sunday! Arriba las Chivas!
[Rusty Navarrette and Jose Arce discuss match strategy for tonight’s match]

Let’s go guys! Get that sweep!

Coach Fraser has helped lead the team to becoming the best defense in the Western Conference. Wouldn’t you want Chivas USA to be the top in the league? Then Coach Fraser is the answer. After two days off, Chivas USA’s First Team returned to practice ahead of the final SuperClásico of the season against the LA Galaxy next Sunday, August 12 at The Home Depot Center. The highlight of today’s session was that there were no injured players on the bench, other than midfielder Oswaldo Minda. The squad initiated their training with a light warm-up session and continued onto practice one-touch passes. The team was then split into two groups to have mini-scrimmages. But who are we to tell you how it went? Take a sneak peek:
It’s the break of dawn; the sun is just coming up when you check your phone or computer and BAM! Chivas USA trades midfielder Blair Gavin to New England Revolution in exchange for attacking midfielder Shalrie Joseph. You rub your eyes to make sure you read it right. Did General Manager Jose Domene sleep last night? Yeah, we don’t think so either.
But the reality is there. Former Revolution captain Shalrie Joseph is our new Goat. The 34 year-old Grenada born midfielder has been with Major League Soccer since 2003, disputing 261 games (254 starts), notching 37 goals and 34 assists. Aside from his club experience, Joseph has also been key part of his country’s national team, disputing 30 games and scoring three goals.
We welcome Shalrie Joseph to the Red-and-White and bid farewell and good luck to the man with our favorite mustache, Blair Gavin.
By the way, if you have a Twitter account, you can now follow him at @ShalrieJoseph21.
