Greener Goals
Chivas USA GOES GREEN with Major League Soccer
Anxious about doing its part in caring for our ocean and planet, Chivas USA joined Major League Soccer’s MLS W.O.R.K.S on a month-long “Greener Goals” campaign that educated hundreds of children and families on the importance of protecting the environment. Local partners Heal the Bay, the Aquarium of the Pacific, and the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation were also part of Chivas USA’s “green team” and each played a key role in the first piece of the effort which had Chivas USA players challenging three schools to a one of a kind recycling contest.

Redondo Beach on a sunny Saturday morning was the next part of the campaign as Chivas USA partnered with Heal the Bay to host its first ever “Beach Clean Up Day.” In addition to removing trash and debris from the beach, the day was dedicated to teaching volunteers about the way ocean life works and why it’s so important to keep our waters clean and ocean life free from harm.

To drive the Greener Goals message amongst its fans and supporters, the red-and-white hosted a unique Chivas USA GOES GREEN game night that treated fans and families to special activities. The Aquarium of the Pacific’s “Aquarium on Wheels,” a mobile tidepool exhibit gave families the opportunity to see, touch, and learn about various ocean life species while Heal the Bay had hundreds of children and families learn how to create a re-usable bag out of plain t-shirts. Finally, the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation was also on hand informing fans about the importance of recycling at home.
To add to the excitement of that night’s match-up and commemorate the culmination of the Greener Goals campaign, Chivas USA player jerseys featured green numbers, lettering, and a MLS W.O.R.K.S Greener Goals patch-a unique detail that had many fans excited about the teams effort on and off the field!
