Jose Luis Sanchez Sola - Head Coach

sanchez sola headshotSanchez Sola, 53, is originally from the Mexican state of Puebla, and is characterized by his intense and passionate approach to the game, as well as his talents as a motivator. Despite never playing professionally, Sanchez Sola acquired his professional coaching license in 1995 and three years later was serving as the head coach for Puebla FC’s youth academy.

During the 2006-2007 seasons, Sanchez Sola served as head coach of Puebla FC, competing in Mexico’s Primera A (Second Division), and led the club to ascend to Mexico’s Primera Division. During his time as head coach of Puebla from 2006-2010, “El Chelis” led the Camoteros to a semifinal (Clausura 2009) and later to a quarter finals (Apertura 2009). In 2010, he led Puebla to Interliga, Superliga and Bicentenario tournaments.

After moving on from Puebla, Sanchez Sola served as head coach of Estudiantes de la UAG in the 2011 Clausura season, as well as Correcaminos UAT in 2012. Sanchez Sola, popularly known as “El Chelis”, was named Head Coach of the Rojiblancos on December 12th, 2012. He took the reins of the squad immediately and worked with the rest of the coaching staff ahead of the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 17 and 2013 MLS season.

 

Walter Fleita - Assistant Coach

walter fleita headshotWalter Fleita was born on July 15th, 1976 in Buenos Aires Argentina. He began his soccer career as a player, coming up through the youth academy of his local club, Vélez Sársfield. After graduating from the academy, Fleita played for the first team of the Argentine Primera Division side from 1994-1996.

Leaving his native country in 1996, Fleita’s soccer career saw him spend time at various levels in the Czech Republic, Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico. He retired from the game in 2005.

Fleita began his coaching career in 2009 at Puebla, where he first worked with current Chivas USA Head Coach Jose (“Chelis”) Luis Sanchez Sola. He continued his relationship with “Chelis” at Estudiantes Tecos in 2010-2011 and Correcaminos UAT in 2012. Fleita joined the Chivas USA coaching staff during the preseason of the 2013 season.

 

Osvaldo Scansetti - Assistant Coach

osvaldo scansetti headshotOsvaldo Alberto Scansetti joined Chivas USA in preparation for the 2013 season, reuniting with new Head Coach Jose (“El Chelis”) Luis Sanchez Sola, whom he worked with at Puebla FC in Mexico.

Scansetti was born on January 3rd 1974 in Centeno Santa Fe Argentina. He brings nearly twenty years of experience as a physical trainer to the Red-and-White, having started his career in 1995.

Scansetti first worked as a physical trainer with youth players at Escuela de Futbol Soccer Rivera in Rosario Argentina. He gained experience as an athletic trainer and fitness coach at various clubs in Argentina during the ‘90s, including Club N.O.B. Rosario. In 2002 he moved north to Mexico, where he would start a nearly decade long tenure at Puebla FC. With “El Chelis”, Scansetti was a part of much success at Puebla, and was named CITLALI Best Fitness Coach First Division.

 

Isidro Sanchez - Assistant Coach

sanchez headshotThe twenty-five year old Sanchez joined Chivas USA as an assistant coach in December 2012. He was one of the first members of new Head Coach Jose (“El Chelis”) Luis Sanchez Sola’s staff.

Isidro had an accomplished career as a player, coming up through the youth system of his hometown side Puebla FC and eventually becoming a member of the first team between 2007-2011. He also appeared internationally for Canada (his mother is Mexican-Canadian) at the youth level, including on the U23 team that nearly qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Sanchez was born in Puebla, Mexico on June 5th, 1987. He went to school at Instituto Andes de Puebla, and graduated with a degree in psychology from Universidad de las Américas Puebla in 2012. Sanchez is a level 1 certified CrossFit trainer and is currently working on his Masters in Sport Psychology.

 

Daniel Gonzalez - Goalkeeper Coach

daniel gonzalez headshotDaniel Alejandro Gonzalez joined Chivas USA on January 24, 2010. A former Argentine youth national team goalkeeper, Gonzalez played professionally in Argentina and the United States from 1979 to 1996, and has been coaching at various levels since retiring as a player. Gonzalez served as the Goalkeeper Coach for the Colorado Rapids from 2000-2003.

Gonzalez began his soccer career with Colegio La Salle Rosario in 1975, playing with the club for four years before joining Rosario Central of the Argentine First Division, where he played from 1979-1982. Also a member of the Argentine U-20 National Team, Gonzalez moved to the U.S. in 1982, playing for the NASL’s Ft. Lauderdale Strikers for two seasons. He later played on several indoor and outdoor professional teams in the U.S., including the Canton Invaders where he won two league championship titles in 1989-90, until finishing his career with the Memphis Jackals of the USISL in 1996. Gonzalez has also coached MLS Goalkeepers that are currently goalkeeper coaches including David Kramer (Colorado Rapids), Preston Burpo (Montreal), and Ian Feuer (Los Angeles).

Coaching at several youth clubs, Gonzalez also was a part of the Colorado Rapids’ staff from 2000-2003, serving as a goalkeeper/assistant coach. He has been a goalkeeper coach and the Director of Coaching for three high profile youth soccer clubs, first with St. Vrain FC of Colorado (1997-2005), then with Middleton-Yahara Soccer Club in Madison, Winconsin (2005-2008) and California Rush Soccer Club (2008-2010). Gonzalez holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “A” License. Married to Silvina, Gonzalez has a daughter named Cody (21) and son Thiago (5).

 

SOCCER OPERATIONS

Kevin Esparza - Director of Soccer Operations

esparza headshotBorn in Orange, California on January 11, 1972, Kevin Esparza initially joined Club Deportivo Chivas USA as Team Administrator and Assistant Coach in 2005 after spending two seasons (2003-2004) with the Los Angeles Galaxy as an assistant coach. In early 2012, after seven years with the club, Esparza was named Director of Soccer Operations for the Red-and-White. Having worked at the youth/club, high school, university and professional levels, Esparza brings over 20 years of experience to Chivas USA’s Technical Staff.

Previously, Esparza coached the Orange High School men’s varsity team to the CIF Championship, where he served one year as assistant coach and three years as head coach. He then continued onto coaching youth clubs like the Irvine Strikers, the Orange Junior Soccer Club and the North Huntington Beach Soccer Club. Esparza also served as Director of Coaching at Desert United Soccer Club in Palm Desert, California. On a collegiate level, Esparza has coached the University of California – Riverside men’s soccer team and Chapman University’s men and women’s soccer team. Esparza served as a scout and staff coach for the Southern California Olympic Development Program (ODP). He studied and played soccer at Santa Ana College and Chapman University. Esparza currently resides in Orange, California.

 

Manuel Tejeda - Team Administrator

manuel tejada headshotManuel Alexandro Tejeda was named Team Administrator of Chivas USA in January 2013.

Tejeda began his career with Chivas USA as a sales intern in 2006, eventually working his way into a full-time position on the Sales team. After completing his education, Tejeda returned to the Red-and-White in 2012, when he joined the Community Affairs department.

Tejeda was born in Orange California on December 19th, 1987. He attended Saddleback High School in Santa Ana, and graduated from California State University, Monterey Bay.

 

Miguel Torres - Massage Therapist

miguel torres headshotMiguel Torres, Chivas USA’s Massage Therapist, joined the club in 2006 as an assistant, but has been in his current role since the start of the 2008 season. After graduating from Long Beach City College in 2002 with a degree in Massage Therapy, Torres worked for a chiropractor and with private clients before working with FC Wilmington Juniors Soccer Club starting in 2005.

Born on Feb. 21, 1973 in Los Angeles, Torres was raised in Wilmington, Calif. His parents are from Michoacán, Mexico, and his cousin, Arturo Torres, became the first player in Chivas USA history when he was selected first overall in the 2004 Expansion Draft. Miguel also has two children, Michael and Kylie.

 

Jose Vargas - Equipment Manager

jose vargas headshotEquipment Manager Jose Vargas joined Chivas USA in 2008 after three years of fan loyalty to the club. Originally from Las Huertas, Jalisco, Vargas grew up admiring the team’s sister club Chivas de Guadalajara, which motivated him to become a season ticket holder when Chivas USA kicked off their first season in MLS in 2005. He then enlisted his kids in the Chivas USA Youth Academy and after some experienced coaching AYSO soccer, he moved on to coaching for the club’s Youth Academy and soccer clinics. He currently resides with his wife and has four kids.
