LAS VEGAS, NV- Chivas USA arrived and trained in Las Vegas Thursday afternoon ahead of Friday’s match against Colorado Rapids at Sam Boyd Stadium.
The team was in good spirits as they arrived at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas for training where a group of fans came out to watch practice. Led by Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Solá, also known as “El Chelis,” Chivas continued working on what coach has focused since start of preseason: finishing plays.
To finalize training, Coach Chelis split the group up into two squads for a scrimmage: MLS veterans against rookies. The scrimmage came with a twist; defender Bobby Burling was at goal for the veterans and midfielder Edgar Mejia for the rookies while goalkeeper Dan Kennedy played forward. At the end of the match, the veterans took the victory over the rookies; Kennedy scored two goals for the winning team.
The Red-and-White will face Colorado at 7:30 pm at Sam Boyd Stadium. Fans not attending the game can follow match updates on our Twitter feed: @cdchivasusa

Just like in elementary and middle school, it’s a day that everyone prepares for: picture day. Chivas USA players, team staff and front office kicked off the morning with the annual photo session.
A majority of players began arriving early to prepare for the shoot. Directed by Creative Services Manager Richard “Rusty” Navarrette, players lined up to take their headshots and special marketing photos. Midfielder Edgar Mejia was one of the few players that showed his gameday face, screaming ‘Goal!’ for one of the photos.
Taking no direction in the shoot, head coach Chelis knew exactly what to do, posing perfectly in every photo.

Five weeks in, Chivas de Guadalajara has yet to earn their first victory in Mexico's Liga MX. Although everything pointed in favor of Mexico's Red-and-White, Chivas earned their fourth draw of the season hosting San Luis on Sunday afternoon in Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara.
Juan Agudelo came onto the field in the 64th minute for the United States National Team’s international friendly match against Canada on Tuesday evening in Houston, Texas. The match was the first of the year for the Americans. After 90 minutes, the match ended in a scoreless draw, with the U.S. having the majority of shots on goal.
Up next, the U.S. will travel to San Pedro Sula for their first World Cup Qualifying match in the Semifinal Round against Honduras. Los catrachos come from participating in the 2013 Copa Centroamericana, tournament held from Jan. 18- 27 in Costa Rica. The Hondurans were able to make it to the final match after defeating Belize in the semifinal match, but fell in the championship game to host country Costa Rica. Fans can tune into next Wednesday’s game on beIN Sport at 1 p.m. PT.
Over 40 aspiring young soccer players joined Chivas USA’s Youth Academy on Monday night for the first I.D. Camp of three scheduled through the first half of the year. The camp was designated to find player’s for the new Chivas USA U14 squad that will take part in U.S. Soccer Development Academy 2013-2013 season starting in September of this year.
Nerves and excitement emerged as both participants and their families saw First Team coach Jose Luis ‘Chelis’ Sanchez Solá arrive in the tryouts. Chivas de Guadalajara Youth Director Jose Luis Real joined Chelis for the tryouts, and expressed his amazement with Southern California talent. Aside from Sanchez Solá and Real, all Youth Academy coaches oversaw the tryouts, with Youth Director Sacha van der Most having the final word.
“The tryouts were great, all the kids were super excited, especially with Chelis there,” said U16 coach Mike Munoz. “We had five or six kids that really caught our eye, and we’re going to keep in touch with those players and see what talent we find in the other camps.”
Chivas USA will host two more I.D. camps in Pomona for the U14 team; click here to register for future camps and make sure to follow the Youth Academy on Twitter: @ChivasUSAYouth
