The 2013 MLS SuperDraft is less than a week away and Chivas USA head coach Jose Luis Sanchez Solá is in the Combine to see all the players on the field first hand and get to know the player that will be selected on Thursday, Jan. 17. The Red-and-White will have the second overall pick after finishing the 2012 season in 18th place (reverse order used).

Upon his arrival to Los Angeles Monday evening, Coach Chelis headed straight to The Home Depot Center to begin planning for the 2013 season and the Combine and SuperDraft were among the first topics addressed.

MLS Combine games began on Friday in Fort Lauderdale and will resume on Sunday, Jan. 13, with Tuesday, Jan. 15 as the last day of games. On Saturday and Monday, coaches will have the opportunity to have one-on-one interviews with the players before the big day.

MLSsoccer.com senior editor Simon Borg evaluated the current Chivas USA roster and made his predictions on the selections the club might make. Click here to read the full article.

Dan Kennedy might’ve not won MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and we think we just found out the most legit reason:

Chivas USA’s U16 and U18 teams headed to Florida this week for Saturday’s U.S. Soccer Federation Winter Showcase. From LA, we wish the squads the best of luck!

The season might be over for Chivas USA, but the team returned to The Home Depot Center this morning for training after two days off.

The Goats kicked off the morning with light warm-up exercises led by coach Jim Liston. The team then proceeded to what would cover the rest of the training: a 5v5 tournament with four groups. The team with black jerseys took first place with 23 points, just one point more than second place grey team. In the final game, the black team defeated the grey squad 2-1. In the end of the tournament, goalkeeper coach Daniel Gonzalez was named MVP of the tournament, with the least amount of goals against.

Chivas will return to training tomorrow morning and will have the weekend off before returning to training once again Monday morning.

Chivas USA headed to training this morning in preparation for this Sunday’s final match of the season at FC Dallas. After a few stretching exercises, the team was divided into two squads for a scrimmage consisting of two 30-minute halves.

Before the end of the first half, forward Juan Agudelo scored the first goal for the yellow team as Jorge Villafaña crossed a ball that the young forward pushed into the back of the net past goalkeeper Tim Melia. A few moments after the start of the second half, Jose Correa equalized the match for the red team.

Academy players Ben Spencer and Amaya Adonis came into the scrimmage for the second half. Spencer was able to put the yellow team back in the lead, but short moments later, Correa scored the second goal for the reds. Once the match seemed like it would end in a draw, Casey Townsend slid to give the red team a 3-2 win over the yellow team.

Team will have Thursday off but will return to training this Friday ahead of their trip to Dallas on Saturday.

It’s never too early to start preparing for a match as Chivas USA returned to The Home Depot Center’s Field 6 today for another day of training. The team is off this weekend due to the FIFA date this Friday, but has already started preparing for the next match against Colorado Rapids set for Saturday, Oct. 20. The Goats had Monday off, but had an offsite session at a local beach on Tuesday.

It was a cloudy and windy morning as the Goats started training off with warm-ups and a light run before splitting into groups of five for passing drills.  After this exercise, the squad split into two groups for a short scrimmage; all players except for goalkeepers, participated in this exercise. The team was then split into four squads to have two separate scrimmages in reduced spaces, with goalkeepers present at goal.

Midfielder Miller Bolaños was out of today’s training as he continues receiving treatment. Meanwhile, defender Danny Califf returned to training after missing last Wednesday’s game at Vancouver due to illness. After training, CDChivasUSA.com caught up with Califf who said he’s happy to be back to work.

Defender Ante Jazic and midfielder Oswaldo Minda weren’t at training, as they are currently with their respective national teams. Jazic and the Canadians will face Cuba this Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT; Minda and Ecuador will match up against Chile on Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT.

05 October 4:05 pm

Upon their return from Vancouver Thursday afternoon, Chivas USA returned to practice this morning ahead of this Sunday’s match against FC Dallas in The Home Depot Center.

The starting eleven in last Wednesday’s match at Vancouver reported directly to the facility’s gym at 10 a.m. sharp. Strength and Conditioning Coach Jim Liston led a set of exercises that included stretching and weight training.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team reported to Field 6 for training with Head Coach Robin Fraser and Assistant Coach Greg Vanney. Three players that did not join practice were Tim Melia, Casey Townsend and Ryan Smith, who are all listed as injured. Melia is currently recovering from low back pain. As reported, rookie Townsend suffered a calf strain on Tuesday and was not able to make the trip to up to Vancouver. Last but not least, Smith is recovering from a concussion he suffered in the team’s last home game against Real Salt Lake.

Team returns to training tomorrow morning to make the final adjustments for this Sunday’s match. Click here to check out a few shots from both trainings this morning.
