MLS Regular Season
Even the last minute has 60 seconds and forward Juan Agudelo proved that Chivas USA was going to fight until the end. Moments before the final whistle of 2012, Agudelo scored the second for the Goats, giving the team a final 2-2 draw with FC Dallas.
After going down 2-nil, Chivas USA replaced Peter Vagenas for Laurent Courtois in the 80th minute. Ten minutes later, Courtois notches the first for the Goats to put the team back in the game.
Chivas USA (7-18-8) arrived in Dallas Saturday and held a light evening practice in preparation for its season finale match against FC Dallas (9-13-11) on Sunday at 4 pm (PT). The match is the third meeting between the clubs in the season series, with both previous contests ending in draws. The Rojiblancos look to capture their first win against FCD in the Lone Star State since 2009 and will have to do so without All-Star goalkeeper Dan Kennedy (out due to knee injury) and center back John Valencia (suspension.) The last time Chivas USA took a season series from FC Dallas was in 2009, with the Goats sweeping the two-game series, 2-0, in both matches. Sunday's rubber match will be the second meeting this season at FC Dallas Stadium.
Chivas USA headed to training this morning in preparation for this Sunday’s final match of the season at FC Dallas. After a few stretching exercises, the team was divided into two squads for a scrimmage consisting of two 30-minute halves.
Before the end of the first half, forward Juan Agudelo scored the first goal for the yellow team as Jorge Villafaña crossed a ball that the young forward pushed into the back of the net past goalkeeper Tim Melia. A few moments after the start of the second half, Jose Correa equalized the match for the red team.
Academy players Ben Spencer and Amaya Adonis came into the scrimmage for the second half. Spencer was able to put the yellow team back in the lead, but short moments later, Correa scored the second goal for the reds. Once the match seemed like it would end in a draw, Casey Townsend slid to give the red team a 3-2 win over the yellow team.
Team will have Thursday off but will return to training this Friday ahead of their trip to Dallas on Saturday.
After a day off, Chivas USA returned to The Home Depot Center for training this morning ahead of Saturday’s final home match against the Colorado Rapids.
Ante Jazic and Oswaldo Minda returned to Los Angeles to continue training with the club after being out for international duty. The Canadian defender did not appear in Les Rouges’ brutal 8-1 loss to Honduras that lead to their elimination from World Cup contention on Tuesday due to sinus and ear infections. This morning, both Jazic and Minda held a regenerative session with trainers.
“Today, I’m feeling much better than I did yesterday; physically, I’m okay, mentally, still disturbed about the result on Tuesday,” Jazic said.
The Ecuadorian midfielder arrived in Los Angeles early this morning and reported straight to Chivas USA training. Minda played 20 minutes in Ecuador’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela; the draw helped La Tri move up to second place in CONMEBOL standings and closer to World Cup contention.
Although the two have made long trips in the past week, they will be eligible for this Saturday’s match against Colorado.
“In the end of the day, Coach [Fraser] will have the final word,” said Minda. “If he needs me for a couple of minutes, I’ll be there, and if he needs me for the entire game, I’ll be ready.”
It’s never too early to start preparing for a match as Chivas USA returned to The Home Depot Center’s Field 6 today for another day of training. The team is off this weekend due to the FIFA date this Friday, but has already started preparing for the next match against Colorado Rapids set for Saturday, Oct. 20. The Goats had Monday off, but had an offsite session at a local beach on Tuesday.
It was a cloudy and windy morning as the Goats started training off with warm-ups and a light run before splitting into groups of five for passing drills. After this exercise, the squad split into two groups for a short scrimmage; all players except for goalkeepers, participated in this exercise. The team was then split into four squads to have two separate scrimmages in reduced spaces, with goalkeepers present at goal.
Midfielder Miller Bolaños was out of today’s training as he continues receiving treatment. Meanwhile, defender Danny Califf returned to training after missing last Wednesday’s game at Vancouver due to illness. After training, CDChivasUSA.com caught up with Califf who said he’s happy to be back to work.
Defender Ante Jazic and midfielder Oswaldo Minda weren’t at training, as they are currently with their respective national teams. Jazic and the Canadians will face Cuba this Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT; Minda and Ecuador will match up against Chile on Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT.

Ecuadorian midfielder Miller Bolaños made his ninth consecutive start in tonight’s 1-1 draw with FC Dallas. Throughout the first and beginning of second half, Bolaños created great scoring opportunities (two shots on goal) for the Goats, but was unable to get one into the back of the net. Then in the 79th minute, Bolaños stopped running and left the field. Why? According to Assistant Athletic Trainer Derek Lawrance, it was the cause of a minor ankle sprain. A minute later, Head Coach Robin Fraser replaced the injured midfielder with Frenchman Laurent Courtois.
The Goats have this weekend off and due to yellow card accumulation, Bolaños will miss Chivas USA’s next match against Colorado Rapids, allowing the midfielder to have full recuperation ahead of the final match of the season at Dallas.
