Just like we told you yesterday, Shalrie Joseph appeared in training with a brace on his right elbow. Today, he just had his elbow wrapped during practice and trained throughout the entire session. So, what was the cause of the brace? We spoke to Shalrie and he said it was caused by an awkward fall in last Sunday’s match at San Jose. Luckily, the Red-and-White midfielder says he is feeling a lot better and should be good to play this Saturday at Seattle.

It was a muggy and rainy training session for Chivas USA as they prepare for this Saturday’s match at Seattle Sounders at 1pm. Midfielder Ryan Smith returned to full action today as he participated in the team’s mini-scrimmage. We spotted Shalrie Joseph with a brace around his right elbow; staff informed us that he had minor pain on his elbow and that he will still be eligible for Saturday’s game.

Here’s a little taste of what went on in practice today:

Dan Kennedy might’ve missed out in last week’s MLS Save of the Week, but he’s back again. Although the result wasn’t in favor of the Goats this last Sunday at Buck Shaw Stadium, Kennedy’s saves avoided a much larger goals against number.

Kennedy’s save nominated for this week’s MLS Save of the Week is for one against Marvin Chavez. In the 68th minute of the match, Honduran Marvin Chavez took a shot on goal off a cross; Kennedy, with his cat-like reflexes, was able to push the ball out for a corner kick.

HEAD COACH – ROBIN FRASER:

On team’s performance in the second half: We talked about being compact. I felt like we weren’t as disciplined in the beginning of the game as we would like to have been. As the game went on we got better and defensively we got better and as a result guys were able to push forward and create some good opportunities and show good character.

On the Goats’ attacking front: Well, we’ve scored five goals in our last two games, so certainly we’ve created more chances over the last couple of games than we have pretty much all year. So we like to feel like we’re moving in the right direction there. … It’s just been things we’ve been talking about. I think a lot for the year is aggressive running, aggressive running in behind, playing balls in behind, and putting balls into dangerous spots. We don’t score if we don’t put balls in dangerous spots and I think we’ve done a better job of that in the past two games.

MIDFIELDER - SHALRIE JOSEPH:

On the team’s comeback: Being 3-0 down and coming back and getting a point shows a lot of character in this team. We just have to move forward and try and get another one and get some points Saturday in San Jose.

On scoring two goals: It feels good to score two goals; it doesn’t matter what team. It’s bittersweet that it’s against my old team, and it feels good. But it’s more than about me right now. It’s about a team trying to make a playoff run. That’s what we’ve got to look forward to.

On his return to Gillette Stadium: To be in the away locker room is something different. I haven’t seen the away locker room in 10 years. As I said, it’s not about me right now. It’s about the team trying to make a playoff run. Even though it feels good to score – to get one point and score two goals – there were definitely opportunities and chances we had to win it, and we’re going to have to look at it and work on it in the next couple of days and make sure we’re ready for San Jose.

He looked dangerous on the pitch, he created scoring opportunities and, oh yeah, he actually scored two goals tonight. In case you haven’t figured it out, our Man of the Match goes to none other than Shalrie Joseph. Throughout the night, Joseph kept the team in the game, not only with his goals, but with his plays. His first goal of the match came in the 23rd minute when Nick LaBrocca’s corner kick shot found 6-foot-3 Shalrie who was able to head the ball into the back of the net. And can we talk about his celebration of his first goal against his old club? Classy.

29 August 5:26 pm

Ecuadoran midfielder Miller Bolanos scored the 3-3 equalizer for Chivas USA against New England Revolution in the 47th minute of the match off a header by Casey Townsend. This goal is also Bolanos' second consecutive goal in two games.

29 August 5:07 pm

As if one goal against his former club wasn't enough, Shalrie Joseph notched his second of the night in favor of the Red-and-White to close the scoreboard to 3-2. In the last minute of the first half, Juan Agudelo made a pass to Joseph who with a left-footed shot from outside the box, put the ball into the back of the net to put the Goats back in the game.

29 August 4:58 pm

Recently acquired midfielder Shalrie Joseph scored his first goal with the club, and the first of the night for Chivas USA. In the 23rd minute, Nick LaBrocca took a corner kick that found Joseph, who was able to head the ball into the back of the net.

28 August 1:13 pm

Chivas USA arrived Monday evening in Beantown and held a light practice Tuesday morning in preparation for its Wednesday 5 pm PT match against New England Revolution. The Rojiblancos’ got a taste of the Boston humidity at Soldiers Field Park on the campus of Harvard University.

The Goats look to continue their solid road performance, as they have lost just twice on the road (4-2-4) this season. For recently-acquired midfielder Shalrie Joseph, the match will be his first appearance against the Revs since being traded from New England on Aug. 1. Joseph played nine seasons with the Revs and was an integral part of their multiple appearances in MLS Cup.

“It feels good coming back,” said Joseph. “Definitely a little bit teary-eyed, but come tomorrow night, I just have to get out there and make sure I perform, make sure the team gets the win and just be ready for the moment.”

Going into the match, Chivas USA has defeated Joseph’s former team five straight times and holds an edge in the all-time head-to-head series (7-5-2).
