After 15 years in Mexico’s First Division, Chivas USA’s first squad included legendary Mexican midfielder Ramon Ramirez. In his first year with the squad, Ramirez played in 31 games for the Red-and-White, starting all of them. He also scored two goals and added six assists during the 2005 season. Ramirez cooperated with one assist in the first goal ever scored against the Galaxy by Isaac Romo (see moment #9) and scored one goal against the Galaxy during a match in the U.S. Open Cup tournament held on August 3, 2005.
The first ever SuperClásico was held on April 23, 2005 in front of a sold-out crowd at The Home Depot Center. Then Chivas USA forward Isaac Romo scored the first ever goal against the Galaxy in the 49th minute of the match off a freekick taken by legendary midfielder Ramon Ramirez. Unfortunately, the goal was not enough for the Red-and-White, as the Goats fell 3-1 in the first SuperClásico.
SuperClásico week offers not only the biggest soccer match in Los Angeles every year between Chivas USA and the LA Galaxy – but also a spinoff series of matches between specific groups that support each side. On Thursday May 17th Chivas USA and LA Galaxy supporter groups will face off in their annual BarraClasico series. Played the week of each SuperClásico, the BarraClásico is a chance for supporter groups to highlight the rivalry that exists on the pitch but also in the stands. In addition to the BarraClásico matches, the Front Office Clásico will also be played between the front office staff on both teams. All games are open to the public and officiated with licensed referees. Take part in the excitement of SuperClásico and come down and support your colors.
