Big week ahead for Chivas USA as Rivalry Week looms over MLS and the first SuperClásico of the season is four days away.

Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Solá, “El Chelis,” travelled to Mexico after Sunday’s game; his third grandchild was born on Thursday. Chelis returned to training Wednesday morning to continue working towards Sunday’s game against the LA Galaxy.

After the end of Sunday’s game, the scoreboard and passing accuracy percentage were positive for Chivas, a turnaround from the first game of the season. The Goats continued perfecting this skill in Wednesday’s training, as well as working on strength and conditioning.

Two former Chivas USA Academy players joined the First Team for training this morning. Eric Gonzalez, a freshman at UC Riverside, and Brendan Hines-Ike, a freshman at Creighton University, played for the Red-and-White U18’s last season. The two players will be at training camp with the Goats for the rest of the week.

Chivas USA will train everyday this week at 10:30 am at The Home Depot Center’s Field 6. For all training updates, follow us on Twitter: @cdchivasusa

The second week of MLS action is history and with that come updates to the MLS Fantasy Leagues!

MLSsoccer.com revealed the Dream Team in Round 2, and, to the surprise of many, two Chivas USA players were included on the list: Juan Agudelo and Edgar Mejia. Each player picked up nine points in the Fantasy League in Week 2; Agudelo’s goal added five points, while Mejia’s attacking and defending bonus helped participants earn nine points.

After Week 2, the top three teams in Chivas USA’s Fantasy League are:

                -The Special One (135 points)

                -Inglewood City (128 points)

                -Frankensteins (128 points)

Fans who take part of the Fantasy League choose 15 MLS players, working with a $100 million budget. One lucky fan will win a trip for two to the 2014 MLS All-Star Game, others will win team merchandise.

One win, three points, and two spots up in MLS Power Rankings. After kicking off in the last spot, Chivas USA have moved up to the 17th spot in the Rankings.

The Goats were able to move up after a comeback 3-1 win over FC Dallas on Sunday, the most goals scored by the Red-and-White since last season’s 3-3 draw at New England Revolution on August 29. The win also permitted Chivas to move up to third place in the Western Conference, just below Vancouver Whitecaps FC and LA Galaxy. Chivas will look to continue moving up as they prepare to face the Galaxy on Sunday in the first SuperClásico of the season.

Whether it’s isolating themselves from the rest of the group or listening to their favorite song, Chivas USA players have different rituals leading up to gameday. Aside from listening to salsa, merengue, reggaeton and electronic music on the way to a game and in the locker room, midfielder Miller Bolaños has carried out a ritual throughout his career that helps him do his best on the field.

“I usually put the cleats that I’m going to use on the day of the game in my closet the day before and I put an image of the Virgin Mary in them. Once I’m in the locker room, I’ll kiss both shoes and then put them on before going out to the field.”

Unlike some professionals, Bolaños enjoys the company of his teammates before a game, helping him concentrate on the game.

Make sure to come out and see Miller Bolaños and the rest of Chivas USA take on FC Dallas this Sunday at 2pm PT at The Home Depot Center. Click here to purchase your tickets; for all your day-of-game needs, follow Chivas USA’s official gameday Twitter feed: @ChivasGameday

For the past week, Chivas USA and Chivas Guadalajara nutritionist Margarita Posada and her team have been undergoing a set of exams to evaluate the players eating habits and setting season-long health goals. After Thursday’s practice, Posada met with the team coaching staff to present the player results and plans.

Despite the team’s short time in action this year, all players are in great shape for the new 2013 season. Throughout the week, the team has been meeting with the nutritionist to evaluate diet plans and improve their health on a day-to-day basis.

Basic rules set by Posada:

·         Team must have a healthy meal following practice and after each game within 30 minutes of ending

·         Players shouldn’t eat meat or fish before a game (Might make athletes feel heavier; possible effects of seafood)

Despite the good results of all players, Posada and her team will be returning to Los Angeles to follow-up with the suggested eating plans in the near future. Make sure to follow us on Twitter (@cdchivasusa) for any updates.

After Saturday’s loss to Columbus in the season’s opening match, Chivas USA’s coach Jose Luis Sanchez Solá, “El Chelis,” admitted that the team lacked attack. Wednesday morning the Red-and-White focused on perfecting the attack in order to earn their first victory this Sunday against FC Dallas at The Home Depot Center.

“Since I’ve been here, the team has worked on scoring goals and we weren’t able to do that in the first game,” Coach Chelis said after practice.

With goalkeepers working separately, the team kicked off training with five separate 4v1 games. All players worked on speed strength training exercises, including midfielder Jorge Villafaña, who has been recovering from an ankle sprain. Led by Coach Chelis, the team moved on to an inter-squad scrimmage, focusing on attacking and finishing plays.

Thirty minutes into the inter-squad scrimmage, Coach Chelis called it a day yelling, “Good job! We’ll continue this tomorrow.” Chivas USA’s training on Thursday will be held at The Home Depot Center’s main stadium starting at 10 a.m. Due to location, fans will not be able to attend Thursday’s practice, but are encouraged to come out Friday morning for training at The Home Depot Center’s Field 6.
