Last Friday, head coach Jose Luis Sanchez Solá spoke with W Radio 690 AM on Chivas USA. Here’s a translation of the key points mentioned in the interview:
On Chivas USA’s bye week:
In this club, if it rains lemons, we make lemonade and we get the most out of it. We take advantage and work on getting the players in shape, recover the players that are injured; we’ve gotten the most out of it, it’s been a good week.
On team performance so far this season:
I’m very thankful with the team because they’re all at my disposition, they all want to play, they want to standout, they all want more so everyone is very attentive and since I’ve been here, I haven’t had a single conflict with the players. That’s huge because I expect the most out of the players everyday and they’ve supported me, they’ve understood my methods and followed my orders every day.
His coaching method:
All the soccer players in the world want to win. Then there are dumb coaches that don’t tell them how, so I coordinate with all the efforts that they make and the huge list of efforts they need to win. I speak honestly with the player and in that way, they know where they stand, what they have to do and it simplifies their activity and at that point, they already know they want to win.
The player always wants to win, but we stupid coaches don’t give them the tools to win. If they miss goals, it’s because we don’t give them the tools; if they don’t give their all, it’s because we haven’t trained for that. I have to protect the players, give them the tools and with those tools, they decide.
On Chivas USA’s next game vs. Colorado Rapids:
We’ve gained a three-game unbeaten streak, two wins, and hopefully this group can get used to that. We have a lot of fun when we win, we’ve been improving, this week we’ve improved a lot in what we’ve been working on, and we have to take advantage of that good streak we’ve been having.

Five games played, four of them as a starter. With a solid game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, Chivas USA defender Bobby Burling has made it to MLSsoccer.com’s Team of the Week! Burling has stood out in the Red-and-White’s three-man backline, helping the team to second place in the Western Conference with a 3-1-1 record.
Burling has made it to Coach Chelis’ starting line-up with hard work during the team's training sessions, heading the ball into the back of the net during inter-squad scrimmages on multiple occasions. With the ideal height, Burling is bound to score his first goal for Chivas USA soon. Check out one of his attempts from Saturday’s game against the ‘Caps:

Big week ahead for Chivas USA as Rivalry Week looms over MLS and the first SuperClásico of the season is four days away.
Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Solá, “El Chelis,” travelled to Mexico after Sunday’s game; his third grandchild was born on Thursday. Chelis returned to training Wednesday morning to continue working towards Sunday’s game against the LA Galaxy.
After the end of Sunday’s game, the scoreboard and passing accuracy percentage were positive for Chivas, a turnaround from the first game of the season. The Goats continued perfecting this skill in Wednesday’s training, as well as working on strength and conditioning.
Two former Chivas USA Academy players joined the First Team for training this morning. Eric Gonzalez, a freshman at UC Riverside, and Brendan Hines-Ike, a freshman at Creighton University, played for the Red-and-White U18’s last season. The two players will be at training camp with the Goats for the rest of the week.
Chivas USA will train everyday this week at 10:30 am at The Home Depot Center’s Field 6. For all training updates, follow us on Twitter: @cdchivasusa
