Academy Tryout Information

Chivas USA Youth Academy tryouts are held at Veterans Park in Pomona. A tryout consists of several game practices and exercises designed to show us your range of ability, skills, speed and athleticism. It is an informal session, aimed at giving players the opportunity to display their talent and to obtain an assessment of their potential from a Chivas USA Staff Coach. All participants are graded and assessed by USSF licensed coaches.

Chivas USA Youth Academy has a professional responsibility to practice common courtesy in responding to individuals as quickly and efficiently as possible. After being determined a top player by our Academy staff by performing well over the past week, players will be invited back to participate in Academy training sessions. Chivas USA Youth Academy staff will work together on determining the right mix of players based on strengths and weaknesses of individuals, group and team performance.

We will be closing all US Soccer Development Academy sessions to players outside of our program. There will be a two day tryout fee at the end of the season.

U.S. Soccer Development Academy Teams - These teams are formed by calendar year and participate in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Program.

U-18 (1994-1995)
U-16 (1996-1997)

Youth Academy Teams - Per Cal South rules, these teams have a cut off date of August 1, and the age category lasts until the next July 31. All Chivas USA youth academy teams compete in the Southern California Developmental Soccer League.

U-15 (1997-1998) Players born on or after 8/1/97
U-14 (1998-1999) Players born on or after 8/1/98
U-13 (1999-2000) Players born on or after 8/1/99
U-12 (2000-2001) Players born on or after 8/1/00
U-11 (2001-2002) Players born on or after 8/1/01
U-10 (2002-2003) Players born on or after 8/1/02
U-9 (2003-2004) Players born on or after 8/1/03

US Soccer Development Academy tryout regulations U15/16 and U17/18

As a reminder, registered Full-Time or Developmental Academy playser are not eligible to tryout with a different Academy club until after the conclusion of the Academy Playoffs/Showcase in June 2012. If a time qualifies for Finals Week, those players will not be eligible to attend tryouts for another Academy club until after the conclusion of Finals Week in July 2012.

Open tryouts during the USSDA Academy season are prohibited

• Tryouts during the Academy season may leave clubs with a poor environment if players are planing to leave the club at the end of the season
• We encourage clubs to start to move away from open tryouts to a trial format for elite players
